Wheelset suggestions?
 

Ok. Ive been out for a while now, working at my job and going to school, unfortunately getting around via public transportation.

I now have enough money to knock out this build, and ive already got the frame.

Everythign else should hopefully be downhill from here.

Parts I need help with deciding on are the wheels. Anyone got any good wheelsets? I was looking at aero-style wheels w/low spoke counts (not ridiculously low)- i know its not very popular. BUt in any case, I just can't decide on a good wheelset. My fallback wheelset is the stock Kilo TT wheelset, but im up for anything actually.

Frame is an IRO Mark V black 53cm btw. Got it for like 229 from LBS.

Also btw, looking for good bullhorn bars that can use bar-end brakes.

Have you seen the Wabi Cycles wheelset? It has some nice rims, and weighs in at 1700g for the set. $150

i have some bullhorns that i dont use anymore, would you like them? they should accept brakes because they have the guides for it

ellipses, agreed.

deep + low spoke count is weaker and heavier than shallow + high spoke count, btw.

deep = more aero, looks cooler.. i suppose.

haha this time my ideas wont be THAT radical. Ive calmed down a little. But everything i need should be covered in this round of paycheck. My next one should completely cover my wheels, which I still have time to decide what exactly I need.........i might just grab the "stereotypical" Deep Vs. machined of course......wonder if B43's also come machined. Those things look so bomb.

imho, wheels have the single biggest influence on both the performance and comfort of a bicycle (save maybe fit). they can make an average frame feel great, and ruin a masterpiece. therefore, you need a nice set of handbuilts.

if you're serious about riding them, i suggest your choice of formula-clone hubs, maybe 24/28...depending on your weight/power, to kinlin xr300 rims. want a bit more bling? upgrade the hubs. kinlins are only 30mm, but an unusual combination of strong, light, and affordable. many colors available, all w/machined brake track. for surprisingly more urban durability without much of a performance hit, go 32/32 and run tough, fat tires (28mm?). for still more (with a big weight hit), deep-v. the b43 is just to heavy to be practical for any real miles.

but if you're bombing around town and freestyling and whatnot, you're going to have to look elsewhere for advice. apologies.

Mavic Ellipse.

20 spokes front and rear. Very strong. Sort of light. Proven great for street use. Clincher. Stickers easily removed. All Black. $400-500/set.

Don't do it.

Get the Ellipse, as they will be stronger and lighter than B43's those things are a joke, if your concerned about aesthetics ellipse's have way more street cred than B43's.

Another vote for Ellipses. You wont be disappointed at all.

well, looks aren't everything. But they definitely count for something id say. Haha. Of course im all for quality over aestehtic. BUt if you can have both...y not lol

i have been extremely happy with my cane creek volos clinchers...~$325, lightly used, a couple years ago. they are comprised of velocity aerohead rims, sapim cx-ray spokes, and cane creek hubs. light, stiff, strong, brake-compatible...but sadly, no longer made. if you're lucky enough to find a used set, grab 'em up.
