The 725, yes. The 721 is gone for 2015.

no more frames for us poor people ? :(

JamesCraps 07-11-14 10:49 AM

I like the seat clamp, not the tapered tube... seems to limit customization

Scrodzilla 07-11-14 12:16 PM

How so? There are tons of forks with tapered steerers on the market and more to come in 2015.

And there is no issue running a non tapered fork in a tapered head tube...

With the right headset parts. Cane Creek makes a reducer kit.

It would end up looking wonky though.

Even if there is some sort of lower headset bearing adapter to permit this, the fork crown would be way too small and it would look totally goofy.

Scrodzilla 07-11-14 01:11 PM

^^

Flatulentfox 07-16-14 10:27 PM

Probably in most cases. In sure there are a few that would be fine.

SourSkiddles 08-02-14 01:05 PM

noticed the early Preorder thing on leader's website. Only see 735 and 725, I hope it doesn't mean they discontinued the 722 Heritage as well. I've been trying to google any leaked pics and no dice.

Scrodzilla 08-02-14 01:19 PM

The Heritage will stay and I'm pretty sure it's already available in Japan (I recently saw a pic of a gold one built up by Brotures Leader's Facebook page).

However, the 721 is gone from the 2015 lineup.

SourSkiddles 08-02-14 03:09 PM

went and searched it up, it looks pretty nice. better than the other pictures I found which dates back to 2012

Picked up a set of gumwall a while ago for two dollars and just put the front on to feel it out. Yay or nay?

Scrodzilla 08-03-14 12:52 AM

I vote nay. Only my Leader can rock gumwalls.

Huffandstuff 08-03-14 01:02 AM

What if I just rock one on the front? I'll be scrod-lite.

LesterOfPuppets 08-03-14 01:05 AM

Add natural grips and I could dig it.

But why would you? It's like trying to run a quill stem on a 1 1/8th headtube.

I feel like it's probably more of this.
Even more new crappy versions of the 721/725 are flooding the market. I noticed City Grounds just started carrying "Crew Bike Co". Now they have like 6 brands that all carry the same bottom of the barrel aluminum frames.

Precisely.

Because arguably, for most people riding a road bike (especially a leader), a tapered steer tube is not going to make any difference ride wise. It is "technology" that has migrated over from the mountain biking world, where a stronger/stiffer steer tube to fork crown interface was necessary and has mostly replaced double crown forks. All thing being equal, the larger diameter bearing races will be more durable and smoother as well.

I agree that in most cases there is no good reason NOT to use a tapered fork in a tapered head tube. However, aesthetics aside, there are no real problems in doing so.

Scrodzilla 08-04-14 09:53 PM

I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the tapered head tube and mega-oversized fork crown that seems to be all the rage for 2015.

Here's a better shot of that new seatpost binder setup of the '15's

https://scontent-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/...f6&oe=5440FB58

bmontgomery87 08-05-14 05:01 AM

ugly / 10

street_sweeper 08-05-14 05:50 AM

is that a unique shaped nut for the binder bolt?

Scrodzilla 08-05-14 07:50 AM

Yes.

I hope those binder nuts aren't supposed to stick out like that. That looks simply awful.

Scrodzilla 08-05-14 10:51 PM

It's really not that bad.

GhostSS 08-05-14 11:20 PM

I thought it looked pretty cool actually....Just find some way to put some LED's in there:
