Velocity B43 Wheelset
I'm looking at getting a new wheelset for my Steamroller. I like the looks and the specs on this wheelset **Link** . I want a good strong wheelset for a good price. These would cost right at $246.00 delivered.
Any input would be appreciated - or if you know where to get a better price, let me know. Thanks in advance! |
You can get them slightly cheaper if you go directly to the Velomine site instead of the eBay store, because Velomine doesn't have to pay eBay their listing and sales fees.

Velomine wheelsets are top-notch and I'm not sure you'll find a better deal. If you're planning on using a brake, I'd consider something with a machined sidewall and level braking surface though.

Thanks TejanoTrackie - I'll check it out.

And I assume that using a front brake on on B43 would result in the pads not seating well on the rim during braking? Well - I'll look at these and see if they grow on me **Link** |

Good call - I might end up using a front brake at times - and it appears they don't make a machined B43 - Crap! I really like the look of those B43's and they are triple walled.

Im just saying there are other 30mm deep wheels with better price tags. EDIT: Like these http://www.cyclingcloseouts.com/Prod...ia_wheels.aspx Also, included with every set of eighthinch wheels is tires, tubes, rim strips, 16t Cog & a lockring |
OP is looking at B43s.
EighthInch Julians are a very good, inexpensive alternative that are triple-walled, 42mm deep, have a braking surface and are laced to Formula hubs: http://www.cyclingcloseouts.com/imag...3315010194.jpg http://www.eighthinch.com/julian.html http://www.cyclingcloseouts.com/Prod..._V2_Black.aspx |
Capocaccia - I had a rear wheel built about 3 or 4 years ago that I really like. My front wheel is a standard 700c that rolls good, but I just want a change. I want a strong deep V wheelset at a decent price with a good hub. I looked into having a front wheel built with the same hub - rim - spokes as my back wheel and it was about $280 so I figured why not just get a new wheelset.
If you know of some good strong wheelsets at better prices, please shoot me a few links. I have no problem with saving some cash! |
The Eighth Inch Amelias aren't that great. The hubs don't spin anywhere near as smooth as the sealed Formulas on the wheelsets from Velomine. I don't remember how much they weigh, but I'm going to guess that they weigh a lot.
If you want a 30mm deep section rim, Weinmann DP18s (also available through Velomine) are pretty affordable, but also weigh in at about 2200+ grams per wheelset. If you're just riding around and not doing much tricking, DP18s should be pretty bomb proof. Velocity rims are expensive, but they're also fairly light when compared to the competition. If you want to lace your own 30mm rims, you can look at Kinlins, which are around 500g per rim. Then there are also Mavic Ellipses, but they're even more expensive. |
i think B43s are 40-something like the Julians?

I think we have a winner!
EighthInch Julian V2 Wheelset in Flat Black Machined $174.50 and free shipping! Thanks Scrod! |

Post a pick when you get 'em in the "Steamroller Superthread", or here. I wanna see how those look on a SR as I'm looking for something to replace my current wheel set.

Worst bike-decision ever was to buy b43. they are heavier than sin and are like draggin anchors going uphill. if you're tricking stick with high spoke deep-v or maybe julian, if you like to go fast get some open pro or aerohead.

Lol B43 overrated?!?!?!
