help with tires ?
 

i am ordering a set of velocity b43s or chukkers in the next few weeks and was wondering whats the biggest size tire you can put on them and also if they are good for commuting/tricks
only started riding fixed last october so still need a bit of help

I have 2 sets; they are not that good for commuting in my opinion as they're really stiff therefore you feel almost every bump in the road; they're heavy so you need a little bit more effort to start peddling from a light or stop sign; they are unmachined so there's problems running a brake both physically and by appearance (nonetheless it would be stupid commuting without a brake in the first place).

They are okay for tricks although chukkers are the new standard in durability and tire acceptance rate. The largest size I've seen on a b43 is a 35c.

Hmmm smallest would be up to self preference... you can mount as small as 23c (or as low as you can find) on them... but 28 is good for city riding and some mild tricking but no stair jumps.

As small, or should I say skinny (as we're talking about tire width here) as they make tires.... 20C I think is attainable, although you're limited quite a bit to the tire companies that make 'em and the stores/ sites that stock 'em.

Smallest tires you are gonna find readily available are 700x23c

anyway, the smallest clincher i've come across in years is a maxxis radiale 22c.

I bought a new-old-stock pair of clincher 20s once for like $10. Terrible idea. They were ok on glass smooth roads, but other than that they were awful.

The OP mentioned tricks. If that's the case, get the widest tire (within reason) you can fit in your frame. I would definitely not recommend tricks on a 20 or 23 tire. I'd want something at least in the 32-35 range. IMO 28s are good for all around use.

Any of the tire sizes I mentioned should fit fine on the rims mentioned in the OP.
