Sweet fixie, bro

I would post this in Track...but this isn't a bike for the track.

Looks like it's set up for the track. The only people who use those bars are serious track cyclists...or at least I hope!

91MF 01-26-11 02:04 PM

for the streetz? whoa.

Look at the pedals / clips / straps. No one serious about track racing would use that setup.

FKMTB07 01-26-11 02:16 PM

Nice! The only thing not-track about that bike are the pedals. Switch for your track pedal of choice (I prefer SPD-SL's) and it's ready for the 'drome.

I'd love to try those Sphinx bars some time.

Edit: TT beat me to it on the pedals.

Read the comments this is a street bike...for reals.

Clif 01-26-11 02:45 PM

You're gonna be the fastest messenger around brah.

rustybrown 01-26-11 02:47 PM

Pssshhht, no spoks...and they think they're serious about cycling.

ImChris 01-26-11 02:53 PM

Quote from the comments that the builder of the bike shared for those who do not feel like reading through them all...

Well, for me it is an interest in bicycles, and when I do something I don't do it half-ass. =) Personally, I only ride it off the track, but not a whole lot in the city exactly...the gearing is quite high so it is not really suited for arguing with taxis. I would love to race it on the track (not competitively), but there isn't any track where I live.

When I wrote "my bike does", it was merely that the current Norwegian champion in 1000m and 4000m will be borrowing the bike for an event in Sweden this September. So at least my bike gets SOME real action. =)

And just so you don't think I'm a total ******...the frame was bought at a heavy discount, as was the wheels. So even though it has been expensive to build it hasn't been craaaazy expensive. Kick me in the head if I upgrade to iO/Comete wheels or something...

.Chris

How does one "race" "not competitively"?

Clif 01-26-11 03:04 PM

Ride for fun/charity as opposed to a more organized series or something.

Leukybear 01-26-11 03:10 PM

woohooo..... hi sexy

By "I would love to race it on the track (not competitively), but there isn't any track where I live.", I think he means that he'd like to train on the track.

For the record, I think this bike is completely freaking overkill. Taking the "track bike" idea do it's illogical extreme. The bike looks hot, but will be totally uncomfortable when actually used on the street. Not to mention the 53t chainring. The ONLY time I've seen a 53t chainring on a track bike was when Olympian Kent Bostick came to race at our track.

This is like one of those "race" cars that never see a track. Only car shows and weekly GTGs (get togethers)

I don't understand the "when I do something I don't do it half-ass." comment. He should have never endeavored to make a track racing bike in the first place. I think he should have made a fixed gear or a road bike.

by not finishing?

Hmm looked a bit into it; if you can fit a 53cm; you can get it for "Was $3149.99 Now: $2049.99" direct. CHEAP!

Dang! Not my size. I was all ready to write a check for it.

dsh 01-26-11 03:44 PM

Well, ****.

Apparently every single one of my bikes is "half-assed". And here I was thinking it was just financially prudent getting Chorus 11 instead of Super Record.
Nope. Half-assed.

And those bars look flexy.

FastJake 01-26-11 04:30 PM

Another case of someone with more money than brains. I bet I could beat him in a race through city streets on my SS MTB. Because I have brakes and not-insane gearing.

Maybe it would be alright at the track with different pedals.

Squirrelli 01-26-11 05:22 PM

53 is a stupid size for any event...

TejanoTrackie 01-26-11 05:43 PM

Street cred

xkillemallx16 01-26-11 05:52 PM

i deem this as a half assed build. no mavic io/comete, his arx stem is the 50 dollar PRO version, and no edge fork. the list goes on and on.

but really.
if hes gonna build something all the way, get a road bike, and ride it for what it is on the road as he does anyway.

also, i like how velospace forums has a bunch of hypocritical ******bags, like deermatt - riding dual hed3's/zipp 909/etc. at a cat 5 level while arguing with everyone else who has a bike that doesnt ride on the track. then, he argues with someone with edge wheels as he goes on to comment on his own bike "you're not my accountant" to someone disagreeing with his purchase. step 3, he shills for bishop bikes. jeezusss.

leader hate seems to be boiling up there too.

Squirrelli 01-26-11 05:59 PM

That Alpina fork is stock with Dolan, it's one of the several carbon forks that have a track rake. They also come stock on Tiemeyers.

Again, by the time he gets going on his ratio, his opponents would probably be 100 metres down the track.

hamish5178 01-26-11 06:00 PM

"I do ride with Aurora though, which is pretty much the tightest strap available."

But that's a sweet whip, but if buddy really is Norwegian a cross bike would have been better value.
