Community Service or Full of him/herself?

1 Attachment(s)
I just ran across this CL ad. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/2182019760.html

It's a call out to see if the bike he/she bought was stolen.

I see these ads from time to time. Seems to be more frequent nowadays???

I'm thinking to myself this person is just trying to justify buying stolen bike.

The price must have been so good that he/she knows that it is stolen, but still wants the bike and is giving the original owner a chance to claim it if it is indeed stolen to clear his/her conscious. He/she is making it seem like they are doing a service? BTW, he/she wants to get paid for the price of what he/she bought it, even if it is stolen.

The dood or doodette isn't even going to ride the bike, he/she is going to part it out.

Do you think this person is full of him/herself or is actually doing some good?

I've read post that says that even if someone has a partial idea that an item is stolen, then they are still knowingly buying a stolen item.

BTW, this is a singlespeed/fix gear bike, that's why this is posted in this forum.

I attached the ad so we can save this when the CL ad expires:

I think the seller is pretty full of ****. He/she knows it is stolen but insist on selling the stuff if the owner doesn't claim it, that's pretty self-righteous.

Just donate the bike to a local bike co-op.

I would have left off the part about stripping parts and whatnot.

after dropping $300 on it?

If it was my bike and I could verify it, I would already have a police report on it, and the dude would get the bike confiscated and it would be back in my hands without having to pay the guy "for what he bought it for"... If you think your buying a stolen bike, just like a car...do the background research. If your bike gets stolen, make sure to file a police report and if you are interested in a bike that looks like it might be stolen, check the numbers and see if it is.

The guy could have bought it for $50, and now wants "$300, because thats what he payed for it"... Either way, it is nice that he posted an ad in consideration to his thoughts about buying a stolen bike, but his request for money and his demeanor about it is wrong.

The CL poster stole the bike and is trying to sell it back to the owner for $300.

+1. Immediately what I thought. Returning to the scene/object of the crime. May not be the case, but that's what I'd suspect.
