I don't give a crap who you are, at that cadence, you are going at least 60mph. What a jackass.

jdgesus 05-29-12 02:17 PM

from here on out, Cadence is now unit of measure

4rcticFlowers 05-29-12 02:27 PM

300 RPM seems pretty unlikely. Still, a fixed-gear Ironman with 2789 feet of gain over 112 miles is pretty hard.

My bike = 300 cadence

Yeah, I call BS on that. There is no way he can hold it together at anywhere close to 300RPM...ESPECIALLY with those long cranks (175-180mm):

Would have been a lot easier if he hadn't spun himself out after an hour and a half. I wonder how little riding he did in training to not realize that would be an issue.

That's also a super flat course for 46x18, he probably could have run closer to the high 70s and been a lot better off.

This guy obviously likes high cadence.

I think it's pretty jack. Looks like you wouldn't be able to hit 300 cadences on it, even with mtn dew and oatmeal.

No cranks, no chain. I think it's some sort of robotic self-balancing bike prototype. Sciencing is involved somehow.

Agreed. That lumbar-sacral orthotic brace suggests either a spinal injury or surgery, or both.

Correction -- after watching the video it appears the LSO brace is being used to control rider position and/or provide sensor input to detect upper body position changes while riding.

Actually, I think the brace is used to keep the rider from moving (leaning) at all. Notice how his knees are strapped together, too. I think the objective is to record how the human steers when limited to just using the handlebars then "teach" the computer on the bike to steer the same way because the computer can't lean.
