Off Topic: Chicago's Blizzard
I was hating life on my ride home last night in Portland Oregon until I got home and heard news about your blizzard in Chicago. I know many riders in Chicago and big  to the guys and gals who brave it. If you have any pictures please share.

I'm down in Champaign/Urbana. We got a lot of snow (enough for a snow day!), but nowhere near as much as Chicago. Can't wait to go out and ride today!

I just shoveled to the garage. :o |
Wow, I heard it's was one of the worst.

About a foot and a half here in eastern Iowa. Not as much as chicago but still a snow day from college! Yes...
|
I have family in Chicago and they weren't even able to get out of their driveway this morning (they have a giant truck). Much of Toronto was shut down today for a snow day and we only got a couple of inches. Big bunch of wimps. I'm at work now but my evening teaching job is canceled for today.

The pattern in Philly lately has been show-freezing rain-ice-hailstorm into new snow. My bikes haven't left the house in over two weeks. I now hate winter and am thinking pretty seriously about a permanent move to SoCal.

springfield missouri got about 10-12 inches! a lot for the area

At Penn State we got a nice coating of ice on everything, and quite a few broken trees. I laughed so hard as I pedaled past the girls slipping in their uggs haha!

I'm in Chicago right now. The novelty of the snowpocalypse kind of wore off last night. Today has been incredibly boring. I just keep sitting at my place and eating food because there is nothing to do. Classes at my university were canceled for the first time since 1967 but I do not have classes on Wednesdays anyway. Our university library was closed at 5pm today (note it has been open all day) so I can't even get too much work done.

Are you too old or too boring of a person to go out and try to enjoy the snow some more?

My University was closed as well. Thought not as bad as Chicago, we already had 6-8 inches on the ground before the snow fell last night. We have an average of 1 1/2 feet everywhere. I gathered up a few of my friends (mind you were all 21+, so not super old) and we had a blast in the snow. Made some sweet snow forts, snowball fights, all that jazz. Feels good man. I talked to my Ex GF today(she lives in downtown Chicago, goes to Columbia) and she said, like most of you, the snow was NUTS. She also added it made the city much more pretty. .Chris |

After the Blizzard of '79 people were XC skiing right over top of cars stopped in the middle of the street. Tho not as bad as this year's snow the city services just left whole neighborhoods unplowed for weeks. Then in February there was a couple of nice days before the Democratic Primary election and the electorate bounced Bilantic and his boys out of office. Tens of thousands of people showed up at the polling stations. Pretty amazing.

We had a snow day today (I go to UW-Platteville, despite what my "location" says.) The cycling club went out for a ride. Unfortunately we had to walk most of the way where the country roads hadn't been cleared.
These pictures were taken in the middle of the road! Note Cory, far right, waist deep in snow in the first picture. http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/z...owIMG_0934.jpg http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/z...owIMG_0936.jpg |

And yeah, gotta love watching the sorostitutes gracefully stumble, or drunkenly fall flat. Rode to the bar last night -- about 2 miles round trip -- and got lots of shout outs. |
Penn State doesn't believe in snow days now matter what, it really sucks when they can't clear anything before you have to trudge out into the snow. Some girl told me that I was brave for riding through this storm hahaha.

I wish to have the chance to ride through snow one day. :(
