the trend
i've only seen two people other than myself riding fixed where i am, and have been told by my LBS back home that i was the first person that they know of to start riding fixed in my hometown. so today i was talking to a friend who lives in a medium sized town that's about an hour away. he told me that riding fixed gear has exploded there, and he compared it to the trend when everyone was wearing white belts not too long ago. i really don't know what to think of it. i guess it's a good thing that more people are riding bikes in general, but since it seems like they're only doing it because it's the cool thing to do at the moment, i've got to wonder. i'm guessing that with time everyone will get tired with the trend and move on to something bigger and better. anyway, this post doesn't really have a point; just thinking out loud i guess. i know this has been going on in bigger cities for a while, so contribute if you've got something to say...

fixed are a dime-a-dozen here...
still... if it means more bikes/less SUV's, well... |
yea, sort of reminds me of the skateboarding trend cycle of about 10 years. back in '86 it burst and then again in the mid- to late-90's. when all is said and done: do you want to be on your fixed ride?...
if yes, then ride if no, then sell that sucker cheap to me and go get yourself a pair of roller blades like all the other asses |
The asses around here ride "fixies". The only rollerblader in DC has been out there for at least ten years, no one rode fixed that long yet.

what is an SUV? Is an LBS a local bike shop?
|
i'm not saying that i don't want to ride fixed because it's the trend right now. it's quite the opposite, since i'm in love with it. i'm just stating what's going on in my region at the moment...
