Thinking of wrapping a frame in Handlebar tape, any thoughts

Brooks tape.

It's going to cost you nonetheless. Plus it's going to be a hellish nightmare for even Satan himself when you decide to take all of it off.

well the bike is not for me, building it for a friend in trade for some tattoo work.

dbwoi 02-09-11 11:23 PM

do it all different colors

Bar tape is not cheap and the amount to wrap a bike frame entirely is a lot especially if it's an aerodynamic frame...

...this will not turn out well aesthetically and money wise.

Why would you wrap a frame in handlebar tape?

91MF 02-09-11 11:41 PM

if there is a god, at least half the internet will die in a helicopter crash.

I've actually thought about doing this with an ugly old frame. I think it would look cool. But I've never had that much money to throw away on bar tape for such a goofy project.

hairnet 02-09-11 11:47 PM

wrap that thing in Lizard Skin

xkillemallx16 02-09-11 11:47 PM

cwmd's concept is electrical tape.

jdgesus 02-10-11 12:00 AM

Clif 02-10-11 12:03 AM

Despite all the negative criticism, I think you should try it out and see for yourself. People differ in taste and perhaps you / your friend might actually dig the outcome. I would recommend you to try the Cinelli Lumen bar tape (glows in the dark), it might make for an interesting concept.

I vote for Line-X spray-on truck bed liner.

Leukybear 02-10-11 12:17 AM

Forgot to mention; the bike is gonna put on some significant weight.

To save the finish for the next owner.
Why do people put plastic on their new leather couch??
I bet you anything this will cost more than a good powder coating when/if you sell it.

c0urt 02-10-11 12:26 AM

it's been done, there are pics floating around,

Dannihilator 02-10-11 12:28 AM

bleedingapple 02-10-11 02:00 AM

I wrapped the toptube of my 722 with black parachute cord. It looks great and protects the paint...

monsterkidz 02-14-11 07:52 AM

cZa 02-14-11 08:12 AM

Cloth tape and shellac....
