Help me pick a frame to use
well I have 2 frames and I am trying to pic which one to build into a single speed.
one is a made in japan C,itoh 10 spped frame and the other is a NICE Schwinn frame. the thing with the c.itoh is the bottom bracket is threaded so it will be easer to put a better crank on it, the other is a Very cool schwinn frame that would look very cool as a single speed. the only thing is ,that is has a old school one peace crank. ANY THOUGHTS After it is built I am going to strip the frame and repaint it. I am building this it trade for a new tattoo http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...u/DSCN8545.jpg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...u/DSCN8546.jpg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...u/DSCN8544.jpg |
First of all, a Schwinn Varsity isn't a very "nice" frame. They're heavy as hell on steroids and unless you use a bottom bracket conversion kit, you can only use a one-piece crank. The Citoh isn't anything spectacular either but would be my choice if I had to pick one of those two.
Prepare to spend a lot of money. |
well I went out and got a better fuji frame, fork, wheels from my bike shop for nothing,, not a dime....nice...I will post pic's later

Prepare to spend a lot of money. Unless you have all the parts already, consider selling what you have and getting a complete bike you can convert. From the pictures, looks like you'll need brakes, maybe a crankset, and maybe a wheelset? IMO, neither of those frames are worth buying a new wheelset for. If you decide to build one up go with the Citoh. EDIT: whoops, I'm too slow. Post pics of the new Fuji! :) |
drop both of those piles off at the local bike co-op.
|
Don't do it.
|
Only tattoo I would give you for those is a smiley face or a peace sign.
|
Haha the Schwinn sucks I own one, that thing is so incredibly heavy I don't even understand.
|
ya I went to the bike co-op here and got this fuji frame put all the stuff on it I needed there.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...ikesingle4.jpg not to heavy, just need to put a cog on the back, get a cool looking hand brake, seat, and a few things here and there, then paint. Any ideas on colors for this bike, running 32 T, in the front and 16 T, in the back. |
dont paint it. just ride or die homie.
|
|
Turned out nice. Get some brakes and you will be good to go. Are you going to put a flip flop hub to run a fixed sproket?
Tom |
running free wheel and run a rear brake,
|
Don't paint it. The patina looks good. Sell/trade the other 2 bikes as parts and use the trade/cash for upgrades like cables, grip tape, saddle, tires.
|
good idea on selling the other bike for parts,,,,thanks
|
Build tall bike, get sleeves.

Also, to everyone: Stop painting conversions. |

Photoflop!

What the?
The upside down photo of the upside down bike was tripping me out already, but this takes the cake. At least upside down bike was letting the bum bars all hang out! |
What's wrong, or should I say taboo about flipped drop bars? Not that I've ever used/ thought about doing so.
|
Bum bars do get derided but I never thought they were so taboo as to warrant photoshopping them to avoid embarrassment.
Or maybe it's just to show tattoo dude "This is what your sweet fixie's gonna look like, that's good for a battleship on my chest, right?" |
Should have slochopped out that reflector while they were at it.
Keen eyes. |
it was just to show what it would look like with chopped handle bars,,,,
