Freedom ThickSlick
Hey bikeforums,
I recently totally messed up my rear wheel/paint job after a crash and I need a new tire as well. (http://www.moderndecay.net/?p=743) I'm looking for a really thick tire that's awesome for skidding... last time I bought a tire I had the Soma Everwear but I skidded through it in about 2 or 3 months and got a donated tire, the CST Super HP which lasted all of 2 weeks. I went back to the bike shop to get my wheel rebuilt after the crash and some new parts, and they had the Freedom ThickSlick tire in stock... the mechanic said he'd never tested it out on a track bike or fixed gear so I'd be the first reviewer of the tire at that shop. I'd like to get some opinions from you guys or someone who's tried it on bikeforums. I've heard it's a heavy tire but I'm not concerned about weight at all. What I'm really concerned about is how fast it wears when skidding. Thanks guys! |

@evilcryalotmore has some on his weight weenie wheelset, i guess he could chime in... what he told me was they're heavy AF, but real strong, also their 25c fits like a 28c

I have almost Zero miles on those tires, So i really can't chime in too the durability yet. But mean while,
The front tire i have is a sport tire which is already thick and strong But for the rear i have the deluxe kevlar durastrip. And that tire is not the same size as the front, The front is a "25c" and so is the rear. But My rear's contact patch is wider and the bead length is a little more spread apart. The tires are both heavy ass can be. But if your waiting for Freedom to produce some new colors or sizes, Wait for there new Celeste color and white color, I think they will also coming in a smaller size, I think they had these at last year's interbike. |
Damn luckily you fared better than your bike did! Those pictures are graphic! :twitchy:

skid less?

who installed the chain?
it looks like the damage is the chain, tire, tube, and possible a few spokes so not much monetary damage. all the damage beyond the chain could have been avoided with a brake. |

Just ordered these tires cuz a friend I ride with in Houston has them, and I can honestly say that even their "Sport" model is thick as hell, and will do you just fine for skidding. I rode his bike and loved the way they looked/felt. They are super sticky too, so that'll be good for going fast around corners if you do that sort of thing. I love them.
