Stem Integrated Into Fork....

Idk if its just me, but i effing love the way the Integrated stem and fork look on older track and TT bikes. Kinda wanted to start like a Pursuit Frame/integrated stem fork picture thread. So post 'em if you got 'em!!

P.S.
Does anyone still make these type of forks or should i just scour the net looking for an old frame that already has it?

They are race illegal and major manufacturers do not make them anymore. I'm sure you could get a custom made one though.

I remember there was a link to some foreign blog to show how one of those headsets works.

xkillemallx16 02-27-11 10:36 PM

... i had a takhion once.... :p

brakestooearly 02-28-11 12:39 PM

can it do barspinz though?

Leukybear 02-28-11 01:08 PM

My back hurts from just looking at them...

Scrodzilla 02-28-11 01:18 PM

I want to see one with integrated risers.

ImChris 02-28-11 01:33 PM

2011 Look 596. Not as 'integrated' as some of the older bikes, but cool none the less.

Is that not just threaded headset without a quill stem inserted?

Im pretty sure you'd have to get them specially made, unless you were lucky and found them on said sites. Some one on LFGSS had someone fabricate the bars to the original spec, they turned out pretty nice.

^ This bike is on the bike porn thread! (i think)

Why are those integrated stem/fork setups race illegal? Is it an unfair aerodynamic advantage or is it unsafe?
I dont follow trac racing enough to know....or maybe i just am plainignorant lol. Why is it illegal???

Xgecko 02-28-11 10:16 PM

I believe the UCI decided to eliminate all the silly bikes that may or may not give an added advantage and return track cycling to the same type/style that Merx rode his hour record on

Exactly the case. Other unorthodox positions gave the rider a lot more aero advantage, including the awkward styles that Graham Obree invented.

Like the "I-have-no-clue-what-it's-called" or the Obree signature style:

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/...e_1815475c.jpg

And it was banned because it was Obree and his Old Faithful was making a too much improvement towards to track records. Later, he invented "Superman" style, which a lot of riders would later adapt.

http://cdn0.media.cyclingnews.future...perman_600.jpg

His friend, team mate and often rival, Chris Broadman:

http://cyclinginfo.co.uk/blog/wp-con...n-superman.jpg

The Superman Position was banned in 95? 96? after numerous riders won world stage events with it and made significant changes to the record books.

Just found this one-

Does anyone know if there are any custom framebuilders that will replicate designs like this? I've been searching for a Takhion Aero nearly forever, with no avail.

I actually have a Takhion Super Sport - which is awesome, but it doesn't have the integrated fork either. My search continues...

For enough money you can have a space ship built... Expect to pay top dollar for one-off custom work. Take typical quality build expense and multiply it time two a couple times. You can buy parts to build a "normal" bike (lugs, fork crown, blades, etc) easily. Having custom machining/metalwork done is quite expensive, also factor in design time/expense.

Figure somewhere the price of a nice used car.

Hahaha, I figured as much. Though I did some searching and came across: http://www.fixedgearswitzerland.com/?p=6091, which seems to be custom (and geared, interestingly enough). Pic for good measure!

Different from the typical integration, but interesting nonetheless.
