Help me pick a new front wheel

So finishing up this build and need to do something about this front trispoke. I was forced to buy the wheelset as a whole as the seller would not part out with just the rear chub hub. Initially, I did not like it, however it has grown on me the last 30 or so miles I've put on it since I have finished it yesterday.

So, should I keep the front spin trispoke?

Front chub to a silver aerohead, fusion, open pro (any silver wheel to compliment the rear). The only thing I don't like about the front chub is its lack of "chubness". I've always have been a fan of beautiful high flange hubs. Also, Chub does not recommending radial lacing and voids warranty.

I've ran Dura Ace 7600's on my old wheelsets and have always loved them. In fact when I had to sell them for my new build, I was left pretty sad. I think to fulfill my need for sexy high flange hubs with these laced to silver hoops- perhaps araya, or i'll settle for velocity aerohead or fusion.

Or, perhaps a silver phil wood to a silver deep v, aero head, etc?

Or, should I take the trispoke approach up a notch and go more functional with a hed 3? I've always have been scared to run cf (cornflakes) wheels on the street, but they are light and functional.

phils to silver veeps

XianRL 03-06-11 10:46 PM

Apollo Creed was so damn funny in that movie.

i want that spin... is it 700?

let me see if i can hook up a deal on a front wheel haha

Leukybear 03-06-11 10:55 PM

Is the rear rim a deep V?

If that's the case I would get ether the chub pencil hub [non - raidal], shimano 7600 [non - raidal], or phil high flange (silver) [radial laced] to a silver veep with silver spokes and nipples. More lient toward the phil because I love phil.

On another note, are you selling that trispoke?

Yeah, it's a 700 clincher. I would sell it to you, but I need to hipster tax the crap out of this on craigslist to get me a nice build. My local shop quoted me 289 including tax to build me the front chub hub to aero head. I have it up on craigslist right now as a trade, but I have a kid offering me 350 tonight. If things fall through, I can work something out with you as long as I have enough funds to build me something nice as I poured too much of my funds on this build as is. Haha!

What's wrong with the Spin Trispoke?

I voted for HED 3 because I like how they look. I don't know how practical they are compared to your other choices.

If Chub advises against radial lacing their hubs, you should probably go with a different hub that is OK with radial lacing.

Yes, the rear is a deep v.

About the trispoke, refer to post 7. Haha

FastJake 03-06-11 10:58 PM

I had a front Specialized tri-spoke for a while. It was super fast, but so terrible in crosswinds and illegal in road races that I decided to sell it. I got $450 for it on ebay to some guy with a FG

So my 1st vote is for dual hoverboards, but since that isn't an option I'll go with a standard spoked wheel.

Nice. Oh well, I just wanted to get my spin trispoke back home a friend.

350 is pretty good, but you can probably milk it for 400. 700c spins are hard to find. (though there's one local up here for 280, it was listed for a couple weeks but i don't know if it sold yet).

i'll have to see if i can get a good price on some phils, but i don't know if the store owner wants to just sell them as a set. I would keep the wheel, i think it looks badass haha

In regards to crosswinds: it was windy as hell today and felt the crosswinds tremendously. Not sure if I'm down with that!

Damn, 400? I knew they went out of business, but wouldn't think they'd cost that much. That means I can charge even more hipster tax on craigslist!

Nope, I just have one as well and I'm looking to get another.

Ah gotcha

NikZak 03-07-11 12:49 AM

don't radially lace

my 2c

Leukybear 03-07-11 12:58 AM

I edited my original post here;

Can I radial lace my Chub Road Front hub?

We do not recommend radial lacing for this hub. Radial lacing can compromise the bearing fit in the hub body and can be hard on the flanges. We are hard at work on creating a Chub Road Front that can be radial laced to your favorite rim. Stay tuned.
And I just remembered the shimano 7600 is the same.

Only philwood is confident enough to let you do it without warning you against it or voiding their warranty.

i didnt read what anyone else said in here but: hey swine,
so after getting a new front,
i smell that silver seatpost, silver stem and perhaps dura-ace cranks are the accent pieces you need.
but then again, it's not like i know a thing about color or have any nice looking rides.

Yeah I've thought about this as well, and even rawing out my front fork. But if anything, I will be getting a silver seatpost and stem. As far as dura ace cranks- I'll have to save up some cash flow. I did see a good deal for some locally, but they were 170. I want to stay at 165

Thanks for that info. Just called them to verify this and they said 2010 and 2011 models can be radially laced.

my most recent DA 7600 cranks came from ebay at $130 which came with a sugino 75 47t ring 4 weeks ago, so i sold the ring last night for $50 which would make the DA's i have on the kilo costing only $80. i would have to say ebay's the way to go in my case, do check it out.

Right on, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled. Thing is, I can probably get 400 for this front spin. That'll give me about 280 to do a proper front wheel build. And that should leave me about 120 for a new crankset.

EpicSchwinn 03-07-11 06:45 PM

Gotta admit this looked good:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Mm01rhNdWs.../v_MG_2380.jpg

But with your rear wheel and everything else on your bike I dig the looks of normal (as opposed to composite) spoke wheel.

liberalswine 03-07-11 06:56 PM

Yeah, that build was truly inspirational for my build. But I really want to get a spoked wheel. Anyone here with awesome photochop skills?

Btw: I looked so hard for that saddle that's on that lo pro. Its a very rare san marco concor supercorsa sprint. Could not find it for sale anywhere online. I had to settle for the regular supercorsa in suede. I still love it
