Do you still skid?

so the numbers have changed since the last time a poll like this was done.
lets get an updated percentage to better capture our new and changing ssfg population
(welcome to the forum guys!)

seau grateau 03-06-11 11:41 PM

I only skid on hill climbs.

bhop 03-06-11 11:42 PM

I have to settle for sorority girls.

I do when it rains just to see how far I can go, other than that not intentionally. It happens occasionally in a quick stop as I grab the front brake and my legs lock up.

yummygooey 03-07-11 12:17 AM

I skid when I feel like it. It's fun, but it takes a lot more effort than squeezing my hand on the brake lever. I'm currently running a ratio that I don't feel comfortable skidding at unless I get substantially out of my saddle, so I usually just back pedal or use my front brake.

It's also super duper fun to find a snowy parking or parking garage roof and slide around.

i do all the time but it's only a problem when i'm using my track bike as my primary errand/transport/commute bike, like this past week.

rustybrown 03-07-11 12:40 AM

Mostly unintentionally. Mashing at lights on sketchy pavement, emergency car-interaction situations and the like.

Rarely, intentionally. And only for sup girls.

NikZak 03-07-11 12:46 AM

only in an emergency when i use both the front brake and lock the rear accidentally by back-pedalling a bit too eagerly

hend0g 03-07-11 12:51 AM

whip skids if i need to kill a lot of speed quickly, otherwise hop skip.

96_xj 03-07-11 12:57 AM

i skid as my main form of stopping and I run a suicide brake for emergencies. put 500+ miles on the fixie daily commuting this way.

and how my back tire looks.

my only emergency brake is to ted shred!

Hartigan 03-07-11 01:18 AM

We all skid in secrecy!

c0urt 03-07-11 01:20 AM

I do sometimes for giggles. depends on what part of town I am in.

but i had a cop follow me a block home just to tell me my bike didnt have reflectors,
so I tend to keep my silliness to a minimum when I am in the north side of town where I live.

LupinIII 03-07-11 01:26 AM

i skid all the time because why not. used tires are still cheaper than gas, and i'm not going through them that quickly

+1

bleedingapple 03-07-11 01:36 AM

I still skid, though not that often... I do it for fun once in a while...

evangelinegale 03-07-11 02:06 AM

i still skid quite often to kill speed. i figure even if i bought whole new tire set every month it'd still be cheaper than car insurance. i figure eventually i'll buy/install a front brake. until then, skidz it iz.

JoshuaaXDD 03-07-11 02:39 AM

I dont normally skid, I'll skip to a stop or resist, I like to skid only when I'm trying to entertain myself lol.

MrJay 03-07-11 04:16 AM

Skidding is too mainstream.
So I don't skid except when doing it ironically.

Squirrelli 03-07-11 04:23 AM

I skid a lot when it was more icy out but not so much anymore. I still skip sometimes, but mostly brake and back pedalling.

HandsomeRyan 03-07-11 04:57 AM

I skidded a bit when I first started riding fixed not because "I didn't know better" as the middle option indicates but simply because I could. Now that I've mastered it, I don't really do it anymore because tires are expensive and anyone who'll be impressed by a fixed gear skid is probably not worth impressing.

...every once in a while if I see a nice long patch of grass still slick with morning dew, I can't resist though.

Retem 03-07-11 05:28 AM

I skid occasionally for fun or at a skid competition other than that its all leg or hand brake
