chainline help

hi there,
i just put the chain on a fixie that im building and i noticed that the chailine isn't perfectly straight. Is this a bad thing? and how do i fix it? when im looking from the back, the chainring is too far to the right, and is more outer than the cog is....how can i fix that?

Is it a conversion? What crankset/BB are you using and how far off is it? If it's only a few mm, live with it.

im using the vuelta pista crankset and im not sure about the bb because its from an old bike from the 80s, but its not too far off

Chances are, the spindle is a little too long for that particular crank. Pretty sure the Veulta Pista requires a 107mm spindle and you've most likely got a 110 or 113. 3mm isn't the end of the world.

^^ hahah.

a couple 3mm wont destroy your chain. See if your lbs can trade you something.

If you are that worried about it, and you have road cranks (I'm not familiar with the type specified), you could space the chainring with washers. I used to do this on my old Azonic Steelhead MTN bike.

If it's just a few millimeters I'd space the ring over with washers. Cheap, painless, and it will work.

No need, rocking the post-ride sweaty afro.

Suggest a LBS spindle swap. Likely, the have more than a few in their parts bin. If they're worth their salt, and you approach them positively, they might just hook it up for you.

Get some bar tape or something while you're in there, too. Appreciation.

Mines about 3 mils off and it runs just fine. No issues.
