Be careful with conversions. Some bikes are good candidates for conversion, some aren't some of the links and info in the start here section should help. I am kind of in the minority in that I really like conversions. They're unique, and if you have a lot of the tools/parts, it's pretty cheap, and who cares if you tore apart a bike that was already functioning fine, as long as you ride it... go for it. |

Thanks, this is what I was asking for. If any people have done a 10 to single speed conversion, anything can help |

Take off nine gears.

I did a conversion. A few things to consider:
1) How are your rear dropouts? Vertical? Semi-horizontal? 2) If vertical, are you going to go magic gear or tensioner? 3) If its going to be a commuter bike, will you want to commute on 23c tires? How much room does the frame give for bigger tires? 4) Gonna use the wheelset you have now? If so, it makes getting the chainline right easier (since you will probably use a freehub SS kit, which allows a lot of lateral adjustability) 5) Are there a lot of hills near you? This might affect #2. Here's mine - used SRAM s100 48t crankset and DMR bikes rear conversion with a 16t cog. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5260/...fd98d00b6e.jpg |

I'm thinking of going 42/16 and to keep a couple extra chain rings I can change out later that are higher gear setting if I want to go up in the hills. |
Alright I did it! Might post bad pictures in a unpopular new thread later
