Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I must admit, however, that it is very fascinating to see how track bikes/fixed gears have manifested in different cultures. Jakarta bikes, for example, have a very unifying trend.

One thing that I keep asking myself is if parts in places like jakarta or hong kong are much cheaper cause I see most builds with mad expensive parts (mainly frames, wheelsets...) or people are crazy enough there to spend 5K for street cred

Just do it. Put the disclaimer at the top. I'll back it.

It'll be a nice gesture of 'screw you' to the groupthinking that's been rampant recently.

A big +1 to this; it's actually a part of Asian culture to swag out big ticket items/ saving up extra to opt for the nicer item/ version. This is related directly how it's a durable good somebody is most likely going to use for a long time.
You've never seen a economy car that's had every possible option installed until you go to China.

Same bike from a page back, but I put different cranks and wheels on it (old cranks/wheels were 3/32, new cranks just arrived from fleabay). These suit the bike better. These wheels are terrible, but they look pretty I guess. I picked some shots that show the workmanship better.

Very classy! I like.

Although, I think it would look even better with drops. (just never been a huge fan of bullhorns)

Whatev I'll just do this here instead of starting a new post.

Having issues choosing bar tape and fork combos. I actually bought this nice royal purple bar tape because I wanted a splash of color but now I'm scared to use it because BLACK JUST LOOKS SO GOOD. And I got my replacement fork in chrome from BD. So what do you guise think -- I think chrome fork + black tape would look best but I'm also super lazy. Would black fork + purple tape look that bad???!! I wear all black too so it's like dood I can't be a goth 24/7. Or can I? AHHHH.

Btw I'm not gonna bother cutting the steerer tube till I figure out which fork I want to use obviously.

And YES I know this is all arbitrary but my stuff's gotta be cute okay?!

Do whatever YOU want, don't worry too much about what others think. Personally, I like the color green and if I had green bar tape I'd use it If purple is your thing then go for it.

Yep. I've had it setup as a track bike for 5 years now (slammed/drops). This is now something for fun comfortable rides so I like having the bullhorns and stem rise.
