Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? It just needs to be drilled for water bottle mounts and possible changed to a freewheel (we will see)

Pista Concepts look good when they're built up right. Very nice.

My first 'from scratch' build. Steep learning curve but much fun.

I picked the frame up on Ebay as a vintage rust pile. Form the badge(Olympic rings) and old Claud Butler catalogues, I'd say it comes from 1976.

Has spiced up my commute no end.

Very nice looking build. Love Raleighs.

That saddle angle a little tilted though?

Yeah, still working on sorting out the angle. It's comfy at that angle riding in the drops but I do slip occasionally, going to bump it up a notch I think.

Looks great, the brooks should feel better pointed up slightly.

That looks like a Brooks Pro, I think angling up is really just for the B17. NcA13, perhaps your saddle is too high.

'Tis indeed a Brooks Pro. I had it lower and tilted further up but this position definitely 'felt' right. I'll try dropping it a few mm. The dura-ace post is at it's min insertion right now, I did feel like it could be raised up another 2cm before I lose pedaling efficiency.

The way I see it, your leg extension may be ok where the saddle is but it is high enough to feel wedged up your ass. An immediate response is to tilt the saddle. I, we, see it a lot on PedalRoom.

I take this approach to help determine my saddle height between different pedals/posts/saddles. Get it in the ball bark, raise to where it is starting to feel stuck up there and then lower it in small increments.

The bike looks damn nice btw.

thanks. I'm going to be using the GT as my daily, so I'm debating right now between leaving those beater wheels on or swapping them out for these guys

I'd leave the current wheels. Build those other wheels up into another bike.

If you're referring to the ones on NYC CL, I'm the one who bought 'em.

Here it is with them on.

Also, removed those foot-hatchet Gipiemme pedals and put on the Sylvan Streams. Temporary solution. I'm probably getting another pair of GR-9's.

"nice" mode:

"beater" mode:

I bought this super cheap steel fixed gear bike for a couple hundred bucks last month. It came with uncomfortable (to me) riser bars, and a crappy (and too short) stem. Tried to adjust for me and get used to it, but hated it still. Just picked up this sweet set of bontrager drop bars FOR FREE off craigslist, a bit beat up and sticky. Cleaned em up and re-wrapped. Threw on a slightly longer and nicer stem, also from craigslist.

I'm using it as a commuter and loving it. PDW origami fenders when needed. 46t x 16/18 (both fixed flip-flop). Cheapo but reliable front mech. disc + cross lever.
