velo orange porteur bars... the rack is a custom job made from the rear triangle of a junked peugeuot made by a a guy from my neighborhood bike shop

Ive got another question now that the bike has arrived, I set up everything and it looks pretty good to go, but the fork is pretty loose inside the frame. like the handlebars, stem, fork, wheel all jiggle seperately of everything else when its moved. I feel like im supposed to tighten something I havent, can anyone help me out?

brenno 06-03-11 06:03 PM

HERPDERP, pretty sure I just forgot to tighten the thing on the very top of the fork, adngkljasdg, its not shaking any more. the little video that came in the shipping email said to not tighten it too much... but I did, but if thats bad. someone should tell me

calv 06-03-11 06:13 PM

You should actually make sure everything is nice and set when you tighten the top cap of the headset, and then tighten down the stem, because that's what's going to keep your fork and spacers etc from moving.

Key word is "snug", not "TIGHT".

Anyone know of any dark green track grips? or non-poofy tape. I know deda makes some tape but it's a little too poofy, and the brooks leather stuff is unnecessary

The bars and stem are nasty, what I am looking to get on whatever frame I end up buying. Looks like the Bianchi Pista stem and bars. How are they for city riding?

docboyd 06-05-11 03:52 PM

See problem is track bars look great but usually are rather inconvenient while just riding around...

Yeah because you are usually upright and your hand position is on the top of them basically? Is the lower position good for inclines?

cc700 06-05-11 08:43 PM

how much leverage do you need? how long are your arms? how flexible is your lower back?

The stem is a Cinelli xA, 26.4 with a custom front logo. the bars are nitto b123 with strong g grips. I love the bars but they are DEEP. any deeper and I wouldn't use them at all. I definitely enjoy having the drops but if this were my around town bike it would get risers are ergo bars with hoods in a second.

honestly i don't ride the kilo much at all anymore. I did ride it on the easter day alleycat and then around the lake but since then i haven't ridden it more than ten miles at a time since then, and only a handful of times.

i also have a cinelli 26.0 stem and colnago pista bars that i like way more but the stem is short and the drop is still pretty deep, maybe similar to the b125's. on either bar i am able to get tons of leverage out of the saddle, a good tuck for pulling through wind, and a legitimate race position. for riding around though i'm almost always on the tops or where hoods would be.

Bomb Komodo 06-06-11 02:27 AM

Its flat here in Florida so I do not have to do a lot of climbs. I would like to able to gain speed quickly when needed. I have average arm length..not long, but long torso. Lower back has good flex. I am an athlete and stay in good shape. Play a ton of tennis at a pretty high level.

cc700 06-06-11 02:50 AM

congrats on the tennis, and as far as acceleration i would suggest some ergo drops with some reach to them. i love my ritchey biomax for short sprints, they're bliss.

motobeCarnage 06-06-11 08:24 AM

hey cc700 do you have any pics of your kilo from when you first got it? I'm curious to see the difference with the powdercoating and everything.

Bomb Komodo 06-06-11 09:58 AM

Ok cool, I would rather have comfort in my wrists than bike porn, so I will check those road bars out. I just can't do the risers the more I see them around.

Do people riding track bars just get used to it or do gloves help? I see a lot of the track bars around here so I figured they were normal.

calv 06-06-11 01:35 PM

Most people with track bars don't even use them on the track, nor do they find them comfortable. I'm betting it's all for looks.

jdgesus 06-06-11 06:31 PM

i dont mind mind track bars on the road.. but im a doofus

Since when did flickr cost anything? Premium membership?

cc700 06-06-11 08:10 PM

since always for pro. if you haven't tried pro, you're missing the **** out.

unless you only like having two hundred pictures. that's like a slow weekend for me when i'm working.

docboyd 06-08-11 12:32 AM

Why post a picture once when you can post it twice!

In true bf fashion here's a pic of my bike before I've even ridden it.. ive got the saddle height as perfect as i can in the dining room and i want to play around with the spacers some more but its close. I've procrastinated enough and as soon as I get these research paper done ill really be able to enjoy my first ride.
