Cheap saddle recomendations?
Both of my saddles are absolute ass hatchets. One is the original San Marco that came on my bike in '87 so the foam is toast. The other is some specialized seat.
I'm on a tight budget (I don't wanna spend more than $60). Can you recommend any decently comfortable saddles that won't break the bank? ib4 http://www.8womendream.com/wp-conten...ain-Saddle.jpg |

but you should increase your budget because good saddles aren't cheap and it's worth the cash when you find the right one |
Lots of threads on this topic. I am comfy on my Charge Spoon. My WTB Rocket V is also comfy.

The stock IRO saddles are surprisingly comfortable (for me), and only $20. In fact, the only saddle I've ever ridden that beats them is the Specialized Romin, which is 5x the price.
|
eBay a nicer used saddle. Fizik, Specialized Toupe/Romin, Selle Italia, etc...
|
I have a Charge Bucket Seat (Turbo knock off), it's been a pretty good saddle for me.
Might want to go get measured up before you jump on any online deals though, good fit is the best ingredient for comfort. |

Go to your LBS and check out theyre "take off" saddles,I got a Specialized Body Geometry for 15 bucks at mine.
|
imho, a saddle is one of the last things you should 'cheap out' on. thats where your choad goes. dont you care about your choad?
|
I wasn't such a fan of the wtb rocket. I'd have to say the best advice is to troll ebay for a nice lightly used high quality saddle. I bought a bunch that way, tried them, found that I like the selle san marco regal, and sold the rest making a slight profit (even with shipping). At least, until I sold the cheaper wtb rocket V I'd bought new and went slightly into the red. Still I was taking a loss on that saddle no matter what I did.

Charge spoon +1. half your budget, almost everyone likes them.

http://erinabikeworxonline.com/image...on-sadddle.jpg i did just switch over to a unicanitor and while i like the style a lot more, it's not quite as comfy. i'm a relatively small guy and i've heard a lot of people say they love the unicanitor, so maybe the comfort has something to do with the amount of natural butt padding you've got. |
go on ebay and pick up a specialized toupe
i love mine |
My recommendation is to spend real money on a real saddle.
|
Add another to the Charge Spoon Party.
I also really like SDG Bel Air RL OMG, they got a new Evel Knievel colorway, yo! http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/I...inal/51911.jpg |
I agree with the concept that you shouldn't go cheap on a saddle, if it takes an expensive saddle to make your ass happy. Hard part is getting to try various expensive saddles to know which one works. Some LBS do have demo programs.

I have heard good things about the Selle Italia Turbo. I have one, but my crippled ass has yet to try it out. :/

well, the first thing to figure out is what exactly is wrong with your current saddles.
too much pressure in the soft area? <- get a wider, flatter saddle, specialized offers their BG saddles in 3 sizes. chafing? |

you might want to go for a 155mm wide specialized avatar then.
either that or a brooks B-17 |

They both feel like they put too much pressure in a narrow width on the *ahem* more forward regions. It's more comfortable if I scoot back on the saddle, but I already have it pretty far forward and I just end up working toward the painful part as I ride. I'm currently looking at Fizik saddles on evilBay, but most of them look really narrow.
If you're serious about finding the right saddle, go to some local shops and see or ask if they have a saddle demo program. Don't pay for a demo unless you absolutely can't find any free demo programs. Also, if they have Specialized or Bontrager saddles, see if you can get them to measure your sit bones and recommend a saddle width. That might give you a good place to start. |
After reading post #19, I've also got a feeling that tilting the nose up a bit will cure the problem, which seems to be one of sliding forward out of the sweet spot. Dunno about the sliding the saddle back part, but everything's worth a shot.

I agree saddles are an area it's often worth it to spend money, but the charge really is a great value. I have used way more expensive saddles from many of the major brands and it is one of my favorites. It really is one of those rare components with a great combo of low price and functionality.

With that in mind, I'd recommend trying the cheapish Forte sale saddle of the moment. The previous version (Pro SLX) worked as my commuting saddle for years until my jeans started to wear through it and I decided to find a good-fitting distance saddle. I wound up with a Specialized Toupe. |
