park tool question
I wanted to pick up a lockring wrench from my lbs. All they had was the park tool BBT-7 which is labeled as a bottom bracket lockring wrench. Will that work on fixed gear lockrings or do they have different dimensions?
I'm not sure, but they can probably order the correct tool for you if you ask them to.
The BBT-7 has six notches, you need a hook spanner with one notch. I have a HCW-5 that looks like it should work, but Park says to use their HCW-17 for fixed-gear lockrings.
Thanks. It doesnt seem like you could get much leverage on the lockring with hat though...
I bought the shimano chainwhip/lockring tool and it works great. Not sure if you need the chainwhip though.
I have the HCW-17 and it the hook fits perfectly around both my lockrings. Bottom bracket hook-type lockring wrenches usually work on fixed gear lockrings as well, though in my experience the hook doesn't fit perfectly in the notch. If your LBS can't order for you, Amazon has them for around $15 shipped.

Just get one of these, fits perfectly on both BB and FG cog lockrings >>> http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...ls.php?id=8424

I believe the Hozan is what we have at our local co-op. It's a solid, well made tool, but it's more than twice the price of the Park Tool version. Plus, it doesn't fit perfectly around fixed gear lockrings, though it works fine.
hozan is the only way to go works on bbs and lockrings for hubs buy the right tool once and forget about it
You can diy a set of channel locks into a passable lockring tool, also.

Yes it does. You're probably using the wrong end.

The Hozan is a nice tool, but I don't think the Hozan is worth twice the price of the Park Tools. |

I hate the Park HCW-17 because I always have to wrap a rag around it to be able to get a good grip without it digging into my hand. Last time I used it without wrapping it resulted in a blood blister on my palm the size of a quarter.
Hozan FTW. |
I have little womanly hands so every lockring tool I've used hurts my hand. I just HTFU, no pain no gain, etc etc.
Scrod you don't just hold the wheel with your hand and stand on the Park tool? Am I the only one that does that? It hurts my hand too yummy, that's why I converted no-name channel locks.

You and adriano should have a hand model competition.
I've been jealous of hand models ever since rowing F-ed my hands like so:
