Wow, I use to joke at meets and rides; "lol I bet someone will put a mavic IO on their bike".

I didn't actually think someone would do it.

Imagine if the guys who made Fast and the Furious made a movie about fixed gear bikes. This guy (the cop character) would roll up to an alley cat to show off his sweet ride. Awesome underground alley cat racer would take one look at the bike and say: "not a bad way to spend $4000.00." And then after the race some dudes would destroy the bike.

Wait, maybe I shouldn't give movie producers any ideas. They already killed the import car scence... five times.

Sayyy wuuuuut?

ah, people and their disposable income.

TejanoTrackie 04-10-11 11:59 AM

I had an IO once, but sold it to another track racer after I realized it wasn't making me any faster than a wheel costing one fifth as much. I guess if I still had it I'd rock it on my sweet Leader fixie. Maximum street cred brah.

except in the fast and the furious when they say 4000 dollars they're talking about his engine and they're not really saying "wow look at this guy with allll that money." they're paying him a compliment and then challenging him to a race. part of why dude gets IN his car after it blows up when he needs to get away from the cops is because he already respects him. dudes who blow up the car are a rival gang and only blew it up because they wanted to piss off the guy who they had beef with, not because they didn't like the engine or thought it cost too much.

can't wait for fast five!

youngandcurious 04-10-11 12:16 PM

can't wait for fast five!

wait, he respects him? After the race he spends about 5 minutes making fun of the fact that dude doesn't know how to drive his car. And with the line "not a bad way to spend $10,000," I never really got the impression that he was paying him a complement, more like telling him that he has way too much disposable income (especially since a stand alone system cost around $1000). Anyway it doesn't matter, the point is that this bike has a super expensive wheel on it.

And, althought this isn't the confession thread I too am looking forward to fast five!

Oramas 04-11-11 09:24 AM

just curious why these cost 4k each? Are they that light and aero in comparison to everything thing else?

Scrodzilla 04-11-11 09:33 AM

They're made by unicorns.

avner 04-11-11 09:46 AM

SO I got ridiculously sick yesterday. A mix of alcohol, excedrin, and heavy dehydration. and I come back to this?
