I just replaced my Kryptonite EV disc lock since I'm going to start using my bike for commuting again.

I bought an American Lock (Series 700), with a long shackle, the commercial/industrial strength one.

I hope it works and my bike won't get stolen, it cost just $29.00

Anyway, the locksmith said it's going to take a really long bolt cutter and a really strong thief to cut the shackle on this lock.

I'm still waiting to hear from Kryptonite about my lock replacement, I filled out their online form over a month ago.

Anyone here got their replacement lock yet? I heard it's just the chromoly padlock.

I picked up an OnGuard Ulock, forgot the model name. I am using it until my Kryptonites return from the sh*t house. Then, the OnGuard goes up on the auction block.

Throwing caution to the wind, I've been using my Kryptonite mini (8-10 hours a day, downtown Chicago.) The bike's there every time I get off work. I did just receive the UPS lable for the lock exchange, so hopefuly I'll have a flat key mini soon.

i got a NYC fughetaboutit chain and lock about a month ago from work for cheaper than usual. problem is, i don't really ever lock up anywhere, and it's really heavy. i was wrapping it around my waist, but then the extra weight puts more pressure on my whats-his-name. for the last week i've just been carrying my mini-U in my back pocket to and from work. can't wait to get my new EV and Krypto. then i'll have THREE LOCKS!! YAY!!!

I'm constantly amazed by the number of U-locked bikes that remain un-stolen.

I guess the crackheads don't read newspapers...

still using my krypto... i did get an automated email from them about two days ago saying something to the effect of "things are going fine, how are you, did you get my letter?" and that i should be expecting another automated email soon. but i can't get too upset at them, imagine the workload they just took on......

Just got my shipping label by email and sent the sucker off to them yesterday. We'll see how long it takes.

I use the masterlock street cuffs, and have been extremely pleased. The strange tumbler design, which has a spring loaded centre-doohickey, is supposed to be impervious to the bic-pen trick (according to MasterLock, at least - and they are doing replacements for lots of their locks, but none with this design, so they must trust it).

The two best things about it: i can leave it hanging off my frame, so locking up is super easy, and i never have to carry it on my person (not as convenient if you have quick-release, but it's on my fixie), and i never have to get out the key to lock up, only to unlock, saving precious moments and frustration.

The lock has a super-duper lifetime warranty. I highly recommend it. It's only available through small / dedicated retailers. webcyclery.com used to stock them, last time i looked. talk to mean todd.

They rule. Get them.

I am using a big Masterlock padlock I bought for like $25 with my NY Chain. For double locking I have been using an old Krypto u-lock that is bic proof because the cylinder is bigger.

I'm temping again. I am going to be working as a legal word processor, until I find something permanent.

I was a temp for 6 years before I quit my last job to go work at the bike shop (big mistake... but ultimately a great learning experience).

I was unemployed for about 2 weeks. I know it sounds like a joke, but learning to type was about the most useful thing I got out of high school (I type 70 wpm)... getting the MS certification helped too.

Temping pays about 3 times more than retail work too. It's not what I plan on doing for the rest of my life, I want to save up some money and open a restaurant (outside of NYC).

I have an older Krypto U-Lock, so I think it's safe... early 90's, extra pins and so on... Or am I just fooling myself?

I'm using an on guard beast chain but I can't use the disc lock that came with it because of the u-lock hack. Right now I have a big green masterlock padlock but I'm not sure how strong it really is, and there just enough room to fit a pair of bolt cutters onto the shackle

Anybody else in Canada with an on guard cylinder lock that has tried to get them replaced? I emailed on guard but they said I had to bring the lock to the LBS, but none of the LBS's know anything about it.

i'm using an Onguard "Ultimate" u-lock. Pretty decent lock really...however I don't like the square shackle all that much, since it seems to make it somewhat harder to use, and the double hooks on the U portion seem to snag spokes when i have to lock it in less than normal positions.

It's pretty much a nice lock, but I want my updated krypto *&^%it!

for u-locks with bigger cylinders you just take a razor and cut a slit in the bic pen.

Funnily enough in this review they don't even BEGIN to mention whether the lock is secure or not, just how it looks and can be marketed.. d'oh. I guess thats why its bunched with a fruity set of pliers and a fantastically amazing new ipod.

That's because it's I.D. magazine's (a design magazine) Annual Design Review. They look at product design, meaning how it looks and its ergonomics. They're not qualified to test the efficacy of the lock.

I for one put design ahead of function whenever concievably possible. At least until I take the damn thing out of the package.
