Want a cheap SS conversion writeup?
 

Would SS&FG be interested in a DIY article on converting an old 10-speed to a single speed? I just finished finished doing this, and while Sheldon Brown's article was helpful, I had to ask a lot of questions here and on the C&V forum for the details.

Why do you care what people want here. Just post it somewhere.

He might not want to waste his time if no one would be interested. Seems like he's pretty obviously trying to gather interest.

edit: if you want to write it up, you might as well and if it's good and detailed it might get stickied, a la SixtyFiver's gearing primer.

If you do it we can go over it and maybe edit it, then may have more chance of sticky

Even though there's so much stuff out there, even Sheldon has some "holes" and isn't very step by step
I think everyone that's converted has had to do research on multiple sources and ask a lot of questions

lots of pictures...i think its the most helpful because you can spend hours explaining something that would take 5 seconds to comprehend with a picture

Also, I wanted to make sure someone hadn't already written a guide that I had just missed.

I sure could've benefitted from this kind of a write-up with plenty of pictures when I did my first conversion. So, I'd bet there's interest.

please do. i'm familiar with fixing older bicycles, but i'm struggling with the proper way to adjust for a proper chainline.

I thought it would show how to do a conversion, but it has zero detail other than a photo of some tools. The rest isn't that helpful.

if you're referring to me, i've got a shogun mixte. i think i'm just going to throw on a 107mm bb with sugino xd2 cranks, measure it, and then see if a freewheel matches up. my hub width is too small for the frame atm (120mm in what seems to be 130mm), so I'll either have to find some spacers, or just crank the frame in evenly. not going to derail this thread. pm me if you're feeling altruistic.
