Sugino Crank Question
 

So I am going to be upgrading my crank soon. I was thinking about the Sugino RD2 Messenger. First question is will it fit any square taper bottom bracket? Second is what is the mm sizing refering to? The third just has to do with the chainring/cog ratio...right now I believe I am running 48/16. It seems like a bit of an ordeal to skidstop for me. I see vids and others doing it while sitting down. Does the ratio effect the ease of it and if so what kinda ratios would make it easier to skidstop my bike in traffic without having to lean forward every time? I am coming from a Pake crank and my terrain is NYC if that plays a role...

As far as the skidding is concerned - it's all about technique. 48/16 shouldn't be terribly hard to lock up, provided you are lifting up with your front leg at the same time as you push down with your rear.

48/16 however only gives you one skid spot (per side if you can skid with both legs) and will lead to tires wearing out really quickly. I'd recommend 48/17 - 17 skid spots.

I have those cranks and they're smooth . I'm running 46/15 though, but it should fit any square taper . I think most square tapered bottom brackets now are pretty universal, (correct me if i'm wrong) but the mm sizing is referring to the length of the crank arms .

You always use the BB you have now, just place the chainring on the inside position.

Actually my crank is 46t so I have 8 skid spots. Like I said I am a bit new at it but wouldn't consider myself weak in the legs at all. Either way what r some good ratios for skidding? Like high chain ring and low cog or vice versa? Any input would be nice. Also I am 6'4" so would a 170 mm crank be a fine size?
