Steamroller brake suggestions?
My beanroller has a single front brake, with the cross lever on the bar top (just like everyone else's)... But I'm gonna go with hoods and need to add a rear brake.
So, need recommendations on the calipers... Silver, not black... I know I need long reach (47-57mm... some call them "standard reach"). Tektro, most likely. (Although, I went to www.tektro.com today to check out the products and the domain has expired! Nice.) I could just get this rear caliper (Tektro A536) for $15 at Amazon... http://www.amazon.com/TEKTRO-Recesse.../dp/B000OF2M48 that might be the cheap and easy way to go. But any thoughts on which ones? Or replace the existing front and put in a complete set? A556? A538? R730? My rear seatstay bridge is post-2007, fyi... (as below) http://surlybikes.com/blogimages/steambrakebridge.jpg |
The Tektro R536 is what you need, and it works just fine.

I've had Tektro's they work but they are neither flashy nor particularly good. I really like Cane Creek Brakes the SCR3 are available in silver and work well

Thanks guys... I found a good deal on some Tektro A538 calipers ($34 total for front and rear), so I went that route. The Cane Creeks look nice, but a little more than I wanted to spend. (I'd have wanted to get a pair if I did it.)

They have this set on bikeisland.com for $40. It comes with two brakes, levers with hoods, cables, housing and ferrules.

Yeah, I'm kind of between total economy and an upgrade. I already have hoods/levers and cables... so I just needed the calipers.
I can't see bikeisland.com without thinking about Pen Island's unfortunate web address. :) |
