My advice to all of you just starting out to find something you really like, focus on being really good at it, and don't worry about the money side. I know some really rich people who are very miserable with all their material wealth.

Yeah, those Officer Pike pics are pretty *****en!
The three newest ones I've seen: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...59251352_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...23957501_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...39144232_n.jpg |

That video is so harsh. The worst part is where he's getting pepper spray hand-ups. Like he's gonna go on a spray spree of incredible proportions! |
Tech salaries are still higher in the bay area. I work in software, and worked in Santa Rosa for about 5 years (60 miles north of San Francisco). I quit that job and moved to Illinois and got an equivilant job there. 6 years later I've only recently broke the salary I was making in California. Cost of leaving is significantly cheaper though. I can buy a decent house here for ~$250k whereas in Santa Rosa median house price for a very CRAPPY house was ~$500k. You'd need about $550 to get what I have here. We're talking $1500 mortgage vs. $3000+ mortgage ($18,000+ annually ignoring taxes and interest)

Oh, also today I went to see a doctor regarding my clavicle
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...09141161_n.jpg She said I could go surgery or not at this point (two opinions) and I opted against surgery. |
Today I gave a ****ty 5 minute presentation in my ethics class.
I also discovered TreeFortBikes.com is relatively local to me, which makes me happy that I may not have to order everything online. |

Yeah, but they pay that to make up for having to live in Jersey.
But seriously, line cooks making 32.5? That's nuts man. I don't know if you know fine dining at all or not, but line cooks at Alinea (among the best restaurants in the world, and they pay very competitively) make 26.5 a year. Average for a Chicago line cook is around 23 yearly. Cost of living is insane here...and for the high cost you are rewarded with a less than stellar quality of life. A win-win. |
Today I woke up and almost all the snow was melted and it wasn't raining. RIDING THE RUSH AGAIN :D:D:D:D
|
Today I contacted the seller for the bike I'm looking to purchase and I'm planning on meeting with him tomorrow. I also called a local auto painting company to get quotes for powdercoating my frame + fork + components.

I partially finished the front panel on my backpack!
Front panel is done? Ok I'm missing a flap on the top pocket! And..I need more seam allowance on 2 middle/wide pockets. Wheres my seam ripper at? Anyways this thing is going to be a bombproof beast 5-7lbs. Take that Chrome/Mission Workshop! Ballistic nylon is prob overkill for lining/pockets. The bottom 4 pockets are waterproof- seam sealing took about 1 hour alone. More velcro, main gussets, binding, straps, and more 3M Scotchlite. I also plan on making a matching phone and wallet mini case to fit on the shoulder straps so I dont have to take the bag off to find them!http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=227935:D |
Today I rode the train because it was cold and raining. Mistake. Gas leak under the train tracks caused my 35 minute commute to last 2.5 hours. Awesome. Then I found out that the opening got pushed back, yet again. Then I got paid, went to the store, and picked up booze/food for Ye Olde P&D-RPG night. Making pan-seared sea scallops with braised Swiss chard, roasted new potatoes, and a pomagranate-mango buerre blanc. Good times.

Today I rode in the rain all day. </portait of the hardest as a young man>

Today, I didn't ride my bike. First time in a long time. I was very sad :(

I saw some guy on a real nice steel FG and felt really bad about having not ridden mine in a while. As much hate that FG gets, I can honestly say I love it and will always have one - assuming I dont stop cycling. And I kinda want to put 23mm tires on it again

Do any of you have black friday plans?

As long as they give you a little bump to keep up with inflation (say 3% per year), do you really need more money?

Wouldn't your expertise be easily transferable to other similar high end (German) cars? im not concerned about 'lifestyle' --see above statement. yea sure its all nuts and bolts but i love this brand. sad to love a brand maybe... |
almost kissed the pavement today. out on a pleasure ride, usually some speed involved as im catching the tail end on a light. tucson traffic lights are backwards so u get a left hand arrow after cars go straight through.
either way I got through fine but ive got a nice hole at the bottom of my right pant leg as the roll up job came loose on me and caught in the chain. it felt like my leg was getting yanked away, had to resist quite a bit to get the fabric to tear as i swerve wildly into the car lane from the bike lane. good times, wont happen again guaranteed. |
Today was a great road ride in the rain. So great that it's planned again for tomorrow.

Dude, I think everyone heard about that incident in UC Davis, it's pretty much front page news. Today I went to my first job (of the day). Went to my local Federal Credit Union atm to deposit some $, ordered a combo pizza from Costco for my students at my second job, bustled around inside Costco to get a pumpkin pie (for students), tea (for wife) and some wine for my mom (this place sucks sometimes), went to my second job, *****ed about crap with my coworker, got to my apartment to smell the massive amount of cologne the a-hole security guard wears and then checked out BF. |
sold my joke bike, bought some tires/odds and ends, caught one of the last showings of Martha Marcy May Marlene in town, went out for a couple beers at my local bar and ended up barbacking in my sidis for a few hours and made some decent pocket change. thought a lot about building a soma rush up too...
solid day. |

Miiight check out City Grounds in Costa Mesa since I'll be in the area. Other than that, probably internet shopping unless my bro wants to go somewhere. I feel a lot safer BF shopping in a group than by myself.

First ride in weeks with the FG. It felt so freaking weird to be on skinny tires (28s are real skinny and harsh compared to 35s), on a road frame, with the handle bar lower than the saddle, and of course, the fixed gear part. Fit issues were immediately noticed. I had to raise the seatpost a centimeter, maybe more, and point the saddle more to the left. The reach is a bit long but it isnt too bad.
The the first 15 minutes it felt like the very first time I got on a road bike. That was fun :) |
Mmm... Booze.
|
Today I found my old Cave In CD which I have heard a certain bike forum moderator has a connection to... ;)

Yeah, I let the cat out of the bag, Dave.
