Today the parts for the new wheelset for the mtb started to show up and went out for the first ride on the Six13, capped off by a night time street session. Good times....

Today I put my Draft together. Took it on its test ride, and found that the cog/lock ring is loose. I don't have a lock ring tool. :|

Today I took a brief test ride in "track mode" (drops and no brake). I plan on doing any of my roller training this winter with drops so I'll be more comfortable with them for the summer when I start learning to ride on the track.

Still has way too much setback. I thought that a different riding position might make it better. Probably will find new drops too so I can use my longer stem as well.

Hold up. Your seat post has too much setback, but you want to use a longer stem? I'm not understanding something here...

Scrodzilla 12-09-11 07:00 PM

I'm right there with you.

EpicSchwinn 12-09-11 07:16 PM

When I'm in the saddle, the saddle feels too far back. When I'm out of the saddle, leaning forward (climbing or accelerating quickly) the bars feel too close. Maybe it's just because I'm used to riding long bullhorns.

Awesome lunch, easy day of work, awesome late-afternoon with a friend, awesome Vosge's chocolates, awesome day.

Thanks TT! That's really informative. I didn't know a lot of what he mentioned so I'll try it out on my bike and see if/how much things change.

You're going to need a trainer, a plumb bob, and a friend
1 out of 3.

Probably gonna prop myself against a wall and sight it myself or use a camera on timer.

hairnet 12-09-11 08:46 PM

just dont take the plumb bob thing as absolute, it's a starting point and an easy way to see if your knee is forward of the pedal spindle. I can't have my knees directly over or forward without making them feel like jello

EpicSchwinn 12-09-11 08:52 PM

Just curious - for a bike with a steeper seat tube than most road bikes (75.3 degrees) should I expect to have me knee a little more forward of the spindle?

That was a great video, I learned a lot. Thanks for posting it. He has a really soothing voice. In a few years, he could be the Bob Ross of bike fitment videos.

EpicSchwinn 12-09-11 10:01 PM

I have no clue what angle he's measuring in this clip. The rider's leg is 49 degrees away from being straight and there's no way in hell he's talking about the angle as it's labled.
http://i.imgur.com/DmmiN.jpg

Is he talking about the angle from ankle to knee? On my measurements I got 10 deg there.

Anyway, I think I pretty much nailed it. Little did I know my saddle was too far forward. I guess I'll have to try this fit on the road before I'm totally sold.

How do you shoot lasers out of your eyes Charlie?

FakeFuji 12-09-11 10:29 PM

Looks pretty much right Epic, TT thanks for the video, now I canvince my friend his saddle is way too low and thats why his knees hurt

seau grateau 12-09-11 10:50 PM

Took my 721 out for the first time today. I like it way much. The fit is pretty much perfect with the 58, the extra stiffness was noticeable right away, there's almost no toe overlap (as compared to my Affinity), and the steeper angles combined with the longer wheelbase make for pretty nice responsive and balanced handling. Needs a new wheelset so I can get rid of the clankity old junk wheels I pulled off my other bike, but other than that it's pretty awesome.

hairnet 12-09-11 11:39 PM

I forgot who used to say it in SS/FG whenever fit came up

fore/aft position will also affect how well you can support your upper body with your core. Too far off and you will be resting too much weight on your hands which leads to pain and numbness

To echo what you were saying; try this, when you're on a straight road with good surface, take your hands off the drops and place them behind your back. If your position is correct, you should be able to hold this position while you're doing hard efforts.

This is an informative article; however, fit is a personal thing, what he wrote could be complete trash to you.

Today I got drunk at a club with a chick I work with. I got too drunk to drive home so she said I could crash at her pad. I get into her room, strip off all of my clothes/buttnekkid, and jump into her bed and pass the **** out.

LesterOfPuppets 12-10-11 01:12 AM

Are you posting from her bed? How long were you passed out? How did all this happen before 11:07 pm? Did y'all hit the club @ 4pm?

Tell me she joined you...

Tonight I prepped for tomorrow's cookie making party at Misskaz's house. I'm making candied ginger and brown butter sugar cookies with an orange and Angostura gastrique drizzled over them. Awesome.

BP88 12-10-11 01:30 AM

It happened last night. We don't have a thread titled "Last night I:". She didn't join; there were two other people there and they were shocked that I did what I did. When you're drunk and see a bed - you go for it.
