Put my fixie together... This project has been somewhat of a joke for me the entire time, just making it as stupid as possible (48/22 gear, lime green deep V's, origin8 all over the place, risers, brakeless, etc...), but when I got the cranks and wheels on, I realized that I had actually fallen in love. I don't have a camera but I'll try to get a picture when I can. It's so much fun to ride.

ALSO I'll be ordering one of these guys as soon as my tax return comes in. My broken frame has been a great excuse for me to focus on partying, but it will be nice to start training again.

Today I wrote a review of a piece of scientific literature for class and completed a grant for this summer, hopefully I'll get it so I can buy some bike stuff :p.

i'm not happy about the accident or the woman's pain, but i am happy that "maybbe that'll learn her" and the cabby when he has to pay 50% hers and your damages.

RIP lady legs

cc700 02-25-12 01:40 PM

my legs are so sore. after the rain ride(which while wet wasn't all that challenging other than it's the longest i've ridden since my knee sprain) i went to sleigh bells and danced like a mofo.

and i have to say...

SLEIGH BELLS IS ****ING AWESOME.

when they played demons the place went nuts. no one danced to rill rill though it was obvious everyone loved it. infinity guitars was insane. whole crowd jumping. they didn't play too much off the new album. it was a lot of treats and the really good dancy stuff from the new album.

Leukybear 02-25-12 02:47 PM

Today during my ride I swallowed an insect of unknown origin when I yawned midride. +5 calories. Sweet. I love it when mother nature feeds me. :D

zoltani 02-25-12 03:07 PM

Bottled dunkelweizen, sample tasted pretty good, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out. Also transferred the kolsch to secondary and put it in the basement to lager. It's so dusty down there, hopefully i am not risking contamination, but I guess that's what airlocks are for.

More work on rebuilding the bar. Speakers are in and we're just waiting on the contractor to put in the floor (which should've been here 2 weeks ago).

Today I did the Illini Chill Ride. It was so much fun! It was my first time riding in a big group. The pace line was awesome and I went way faster than I usually ride, despite all the wind.

The day started out with a big breakfast (WITH BACON). Then we rode for a bit, had a hot chocolate break, rode some more, and ended the ride with a big pasta meal.

Met some cool people. Also realized how slow I really am, despite feeling really good for most of the ride. Fuuuuuuu local cycling team.

Good day.

Dannihilator 02-25-12 09:15 PM

Today I got a good street session in. Back to the road tomorrow.

Today I bought an early 80s SR road frame very similar to my first road bike, another 80s SR, which was clobbered by a car. Filling a void created by getting run over early in my cycling experience.

I dont have wheels to get it rolling as a geared bike, so I will be converting it. I think it will be fun to collect the remaining 600 EX parts get it going as 8 speed in the future.

redpear 02-25-12 11:24 PM

day two of IT band rolling.

feels like I'm going to die.

also, some good hard riding today, some easy cruising, and some beering.

Nagrom_ 02-25-12 11:24 PM

That's friggin' awesome man!

Thanks! Here is the old bike, from when I was a noob and cycling was still very new mysterious

I cant find any good pre-collision photos, especially without those stupid bullhorns. I'm still using that crankset on my fg and the front hub on my touring bike. All the braze ons and lugs match up. The blue one was all Suntour, SR, and Sansin/Sunshine parts - as if I knew what that meant at the time. Unfortunately I had not recorded the serial number

LesterOfPuppets 02-26-12 12:05 AM

Nice frame you picked up there! Reminds me a lot of my old Univega. I really gotta find another one of those someday.

The lug points look longer on your new frame, to me.

I'm kinda thinking Miyata or Univega more likely than SR, just because there were so many more of them in the US.

A lot of Univega frames made by Miyata back in the day.

fxdgrjedi 02-26-12 12:41 AM

Loving that SR! Ill keep my eyes open in the local co-ops parts bins for 600ex bits.

Today I: was so effing sore from commuting into 30mph headwinds this whole week. The wind decided to shift 180` during the course of the day so it was in my face both ways on Thu and Friday. Got out of bed, decided to take a rest day, got back into bed. I need to get my geared roadie going...

This afternoon I put some Tektro road levers on my Cinelli 64's. No brakes, just levers. So rad. I will now be able to wrestle the wind more effectively.

Yeah, taking my 6'5" 200lb body plus a 20lb bike moving at around 18mph in the shin has to hurt a little.

redpear 02-26-12 01:12 AM

Well, she definitely learned her lesson :thumb:

There is a good chance of that. I love Miyata frames, so it is all good. One day I will have one of their triple butted splined frames

Bought a wireless scanner / printer so I can print off reams of pictures for immigration and was pleased that it took all of 20 minutes before it was networked in and printing off a test page.

My daughters are rather pleased that I am embracing some 21st century technology... :)

JohnDThompson 02-26-12 09:56 AM

Fixed the upper pivot spring in this derailleur so it now works properly:

It fought me every inch of the way, but it's good now!
