You didn't call goose btw. eh, I wouldn't be able to run, fair enough.

Today I had first ride on Free Spirit with proper sized seatpost, but forgot to dial height/angle in :(

Went from this 25.4 (wrong size) to the later 25.6 but did the swap with the bike in place all tilted up like that.

Before:

After: Only $8 but still has setback. I need a zero setback in here fer sure! Maybe in a couple weeks I'll splurge on one.

Holy giant-looking stem! Is that a 120 or 130cm?

EDIT: I'm not going to fix the mistake because it makes me laugh.

probably not, doesn't quite look 4 feet.

LesterOfPuppets 05-22-12 11:26 PM

Hahaha! 130cm stems rule.

I'd guess 130mm but I haven't measured it. It's about 2cm too long for them modern brake levers. Might put my 105 SLR levers on there, would be close to proper reach. Unfortunately stem and bar are 26.4 clamp so changing stem would require new bar.

Today I had work, then when I got home I up and rode over to meet jdg for a quick spin. Seattle after the rain is so super duper beautiful. Had awesome dinner at his house. Got some noisy fenders to borrow. Rode home. Ate ice cream. Now sleep.

Indeed. Whereabouts in Chicago are you? I'm on the North side. Like, halfway to Wisconsin. If you ever wanna get a ride going, I'm usually free Monday and Tuesday.

C'mon now, no need for this drama. Also, what if it's you? Then he can't see this post. :roflmao2:

I was joking. Since you're the only person in the SSFG forum that knows me IRL, I figured that you of all people would get that.

Today I decided that, after a few days of hanging out in the 41 on and off, I don't like it nearly as much as this place. It's just feels like a strange cold planet full of dudes in spandex and obsessed with crabon.

Jaytron 05-23-12 08:58 AM

Yeah, the 41 is lame. Mostly Freds.

ddeadserious 05-23-12 09:00 AM

There's not even a good amount of tech/component talk either. It's a weird place.

Also I'd like to note that I wear spandex and like carbon stuff. Just not like those guys.

cc700 05-23-12 09:24 AM

hmm... stumped. that basically rounds out my "list."

which means it could be me.

nicely put.

At work and at home I have the 33 and the 178 open in my browser all the time. I venture into the 41 occasionally, but mainly to amuse myself.

Racing aside, the 33 is basically a place where people are like-minded, generally experienced and sensible and like talking about riding and training more than obsessing/arguing over the minutia of equipment and component selection.
We also have much non-cycling conversation as well. We have:

twitter feed (now renamed)
eating status
weight loss status
music status
alcohol status
caffeine status
geek status

ect.

The people that I hang out with off the bike are generally more like 178 users. SS/FG is how I started riding (and continue to ride) so I relate more here than to people in the 41. I started riding road and racing road about the same time in college.

hairnet 05-23-12 09:31 AM

it occasionally has really good threads, some troll threads, but it is mostly boring crap with people being armchair engineers and others asking how to be a serious cyclist. I spent most of my time reading there when I joined BF :-/ C&V is pretty good

ironically you wont find any threads about "serious cycling" in the 33...

Why? Cause it doesn't matter and no one cares.

hairnet 05-23-12 09:39 AM

my short time in the 33 was nice

TMonk 05-23-12 09:48 AM

some of the regular posters there don't even ride anymore/atm, let alone race

also people outside of the 33 (esp 41) seem to take racing more seriously, which is weird.
most of us realize after 3-4 years in the game that we will never make a living doing this; it's about fun, healthy competition.

I haven't yet. I may pick up a copy for nostalgia's sake, but I buy Collector's Editions for the resale value.

LesterOfPuppets 05-23-12 12:29 PM
