Today I rode towards the black clouds for 7.5 miles until I was able to see the lightning during the daytime, then I raced the storm home. I won.

Threw up on a ride today. Sucked. I was under the impression that beer+soy milk=Muscle Milk, but apparently that is not the case.

hamfoh 08-01-11 08:27 PM

Just the idea of that concoction gives me the gag reflex. http://www.animated-smileys.com/smil...-puking-17.gif

Put of my Egg Beater SL Pedals on the Lo Pro and tried them out for the first time. WHAT A DIFFRENCE!!! I love it and may never go back
I fell trying to track stand at a light. but it was no biggie. I didnt put my arm out and try to catch myself I just put my arms next to my torso and let gravity do the work.
I also bought a stem and finally put some bullhorns-no more risers. HUGE DIFFRENCE. now im ready to RIDE!!-after work that is.

Glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to club tombay also, haha.

I scouted the route for my ride, the co-op's ride. I am now realizing how much work goes into organizing a ride that I want to do weekly. I hope I can keep up the patience to map easy slow routes for beginners to keep them coming back

Today I decided I really want a SS 29er. My current mtb is too small and I hate how the gears get jostled going off jumps.

Maybe a FGFS29ER???

currently browsing bd's ss29er options...

Today, a guest at one of the restaurants I work asked me how to use the salt shaker. I was literally speechless. If anyone has any ideas, I'm trying to figure out a professional and respectful way to answer that question for future reference. It is in my (smartass) nature to say something like "Well you point the side with the holes down and shake it, ma'am," and I feel like that might get me fired.

Today I, am making my first post on bikeforums.net.

But seriously. Today I want to learn how to paint my hub. I want a new rimset for my rear wheel and the cheapest way to do that is buy the rim and lace and true it myself. I figured that if I was going to do that, I should replace the hub on the bikesdirect Kilo TT Pro that gets ragged on. However, upon further research I found that it is in fact a sealed hub, which is what matters. So now, I might as well paint it a cool color.

In order to paint aluminum, I believe you must deanodize it, primer, paint, clearcoat (?), and anodize. Can anyone verify this?

IGH 29er = win

And streetdude, get a road bike and crush mountains with me.

Finished my français final exam, then sat at the mechanics for 2 hours waiting for them to fix my car. Trying to plan out rides for the rest of the week before the damn tropical storm/hurricane destroys the weekend.

Saturday I rode my bike with 5 friends from Chicago to Milwaukee. Just a touch under 100 miles (no biggie, I did an official century a couple weeks ago). I felt fantastic, way better than when I did the same ride last year. Even had enough energy to stay awake after dinner for some beers at the hotel bar. 6 people, 100 miles, no flats or mechanicals, though 2 people got bad heat rash.

Had a lot of fun trying to take action shots while I was riding.

Sunday we almost got stranded in Milwaukee - in years past we've always taken Amtrak home with no issues, but apparently there was some 24hour alleycat in Milwaukee that same weekend. So we got to the station and they had no bike boxes left, and wouldn't let us check the bikes without boxes. Eventually though, the super helpful ticket agent made some calls and we had to sign liability waivers but they let us just put our bikes in the baggage car ourselves right from the platform. The bikes made it unscathed and we didn't have to pay to check them because they felt bad about being out of boxes. Score!

Oh! And of interest to this forum, we took a couple mile detour to check out the Kenosha velodrome. There were a few folks training, including these guys on a tandem track bike (which I had no idea existed). It was so cool!

Today, from the looks of my electric bill from my house back in the bay area; the thermostat was left on the entire time while we were both in San Diego... poo's to keeping a constant 68 in a vacant house and the resulting heat wave that struck that month. :(

So I found my dream bike for $800 on CL. Hand built Alu frame from a well-known small shop with 105 shifters and brakes, DA derailers, and Ritchey everything else. Only problem is I don't have any money, so I put all of my bikes on CL. -_-

How to Paint Aluminum

After clicking the link, please take note how well Google searches the BF.net site. It's better than the forums search function.

You can also enter this- "site:bikeforums.net how to paint aluminum" -in Google's search barn and it will only give you results from this site.

But seriously.

DeusVolt 08-03-11 04:41 PM

Today I'm sitting in my office, dreaming of A BETTER TOMORROW in which I can actually afford a nice bike and bike stuff instead of getting paid, paying my bills, paying my tuition, buying cigarettes and then being broke.

Ugh.

prooftheory 08-03-11 04:43 PM

Skip the cigarettes and buy more bike stuff.

DeusVolt 08-03-11 04:52 PM

For my Dawes MTA?

It's the definition of putting pearls on swine. : D

MACRI 08-03-11 04:58 PM

if i can quit cold turkey after smoking since age 12 you shouldn't have a problem, the key is breaking your own ******** mental rules like "i smoke before bed, when i wake up, after dinner, when i scratch my left nut" now after two years i can smoke casually at a bar if i feel like it which after 10+ drinks i'll usually do just about anything including a 17 year old apparently. still not allowed over to her older sisters anymore, at least not without being chased out the yard by her boyfriend too bad used to be friends. what were we talking about again? oh yeah the other thing i found helped was after the first month you get the mental of it which is actually your dopamine system returning to normal during that stage i would occasionally smoke cherry pipe tobacco just to get the feeling of smoking but i never inhaled it just something keep the mouth busy. the first 4 days i smoked through at least 10 grams of pot i don't suggest this as you kinda lose your marbles a bit. although i still enjoy biking stoned specially on a longer ride.

DeusVolt 08-03-11 05:00 PM

There is only one thing I enjoy more than biking stoned.

Biking stoned AND drunk. Then everything is like a race video.

EDIT: Plus, I refuse to quit smoking. Either I'll get hit by a car or lung cancer'll get me. Either way it's just a race against the clock.

prooftheory 08-03-11 05:04 PM

Then you probably shouldn't dream about better tomorrows.

MACRI 08-03-11 05:05 PM

do you notice that you can feel your ankle positions even more when you smoke and ride? i feel just more conscientious of my entire body and aware of when each detail is doing it's like i can control the molecules brochacho

DeusVolt 08-03-11 05:07 PM

That hardly makes sense, but your internet snark level far exceeds mine, so you've clearly won this round.

Damn you, prooftheory.
