Auto or manual? CVT in the Impreza is weird! But kind of cool/interesting at the same time. The Mazda is zippy and handles well for a sub-$20k car, and gets pretty good fuel economy if that's your thing (wasn't a factor for me). Mazda has had higher reliability ratings lately, but Subaru does have a legacy of great reliability.

IMO, AWD isn't that useful for normal driving. Even in Seattle (where it rains 99% of the year) FWD is fine. If it snows in CA, you should just go hide in a hole.

Manual, unless my girlfriend doesn't want to learn (AKA I drive her everywhere). Manual is usually the cheaper option, anyway.

From the site, it says the Mazda 3 5 door starts at 20k, and the Impreza starts at ~17-18k. I have trust in Mazdas, I've had a Miata and RX-7 that has lasted me well. This would be my first Subaru.

The Mazda 3 gets like.. +10 mpg on the highway I think. That's always a plus.

which has more hp? that usually effects insurance cost a lot, as well as fuel consumption these days iirc

I think the WRX and MS3 are pretty comparable in terms of HP and fuel efficiency. The STI is faster in tests cuz of AWD. If you're buying either of these cars you shouldn't really care about fuel efficiency anyways (though I've been getting 26/27mpg average calculated at the pump!!)

And I think the stock STI has about 30-40 more HP than the MS3.

I could speculate that the increase in insurance cost for the WRX is due to all these 17 year old rich bois modding and driving their cars like wannabe Ken Blocks. With a perfect driving record, the insurance company wanted $200/month to insure a WRX and $110/month for the MS3 (and about $100/month for a regular 3). I had a friend that said she was quoted $4k/year for WRX insurance. NUTS!!

Teach her! Manual is easy. Took me 3 minutes and two stalls, and after that I was good to go.

In my experience, it's way easier to haggle with Mazda than with Subaru. In the end they'll probably be about the same cost. The sale price on my MS3 was about $4k below MSRP if I remember correctly (got owned by TTL tho).

It's not a matter of me teaching her, it's a matter if she wants to be taught. I would if I had any manual transmission cars ATM.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to see which one I could haggle with more. Lowest price gets my choice.

Doin' it.

calv 04-05-13 01:56 PM

smoking sucks major balls. did i halp?

SpeshulEd 04-05-13 02:50 PM

Haven't touched a cigarette since 1/1, quit cold turkey.

If you're ready to quit, it's pretty easy to do. If you don't want to quit but feel you should, it'll be a lot harder.

RGNY 04-05-13 03:33 PM

canal access road was clear to take to and from work. less of a mud bog than yesterday, but yay fenders.

may actually have time this weekend to 1x9 the Ridley. gears. whoa.

Nagrom_ 04-05-13 03:42 PM

I tried to taco an unlaced Formation Face. Could not do it. Whatever I tried. Put it on stairs and stood on it, didn't even bend.

Long story.

calv 04-05-13 04:15 PM

We're ready for it.

Cynikal 04-05-13 04:35 PM

A package of braze-ons arrived on my desk today and tomorrow I'm off to a frame building class. Going to be a good weekend.

Just don't fall into the thought process that if you slip you really didn't want to quit. If you slip, just call it a slip and stay with it. You had to learn the habit/addiction, it will take time to unlearn it too. It's hard either way. Haven't smoked in 12 years, best thing I ever did for myself.

Be strong, you can do it.

This weekend is insane. Went to a party last night with the girls from our schools dance team. Day. Um. Got a girls number there before we left, and she invited me to a party tonight. And then friends with one tomorrow night too. No wonder I'm broke.

And today I did a short grocery/recovery ride. Legs feel pretty decent. So glad its finally warming up so I can get back in shape.

Oh and Seau, **** smoking. I lost two grandparents to lung cancer because they smoked a lot, especially when they were younger. You're doing your body a favor by quitting.

c0urt 04-05-13 07:06 PM

had to miss a brewery ride, i broke my glasses.

Echoing this, never stop trying. I had actually quit for 6 months about 7 years ago and picked it back up on weekends...then whenever I drank. My downfall, I drank every night, so I'd have 1-3 every night, more on the weekends. I smoked so much through the holidays that I was wheezing and hacking up blood. Finally something in brain just clicked - I didn't want to live that way anymore. I've had a couple of chances since the beginning of the year but it's so nice to be able to take a deep breath and not start coughing. I don't want to go back.

Dannihilator 04-05-13 07:17 PM

Today I had a good time on the dirt. Worked on the 930 a little before hand(new brake levers, cable and chainring.)

I quit every day for thirty years!!!

Then I discovered NOPE..............Not One Puff Ever.

Next month will be three years without a puff/toke of anything.

I can't, and don't know anyone who can, "just smoke one tonight".

I went from almost three packs a day to none. Hardest damn thing I ever did.

Mumonkan 04-05-13 08:00 PM

Started smoking when i was 12, stopped at 21

had a panic attack after i smoked some weed (as i usually did) when i got home from work, thought i was actually dying

decided then that all that **** isnt worth it, havent smoked a cig or weed since, only drink a handfull of times per year and i feel a lot better in every way

but as othera have said, you have tp be truly ready for it, i had tried stopping numerous times before that

SpeshulEd 04-05-13 08:12 PM

I have actually cut back on smoking other stuff too. Vaporizer and edibles for me! Granted, I still enjoy a dab every now and then. shh, it's medicinal!

Nagrom_ 04-05-13 08:21 PM

I go to school in San Jose, and pass AT LEAST four dispensaries from the bus stop to campus.
