Today I did over a metric century on my commuter. Clad in lycra and on a kona paddywagon, I got some stares. It was actually fun; especially going downhill and pulling skids at 35mph downhill. Hey, you gotta do something fun after 3 hours of nonstop riding.

I was waiting for the "walk" symbol so I could cross this busy street in the crosswalk. I get the symbol and traffic has come to a stop, as I roll out off the sidewalk, the truck that was in the right turn lane just started going (he stopped a few feet back, so he had time to get some speed). My leg hit his driver side bumper(by the blinker) I fall to the ground and land on my back. As I am getting my ass off the ground and picking my bike up, he rolls down his window and says "Oops I guess I didn't see you." Doesn't as if I'm alright, so I say "I'm fine just trying to cross in the crosswalk. He drives away before I can mount my bike.

Today I rode my caad9 to go jam with my friends. Stiff road bikes are awesome, you guys all need one.

Today I rode the DJ at the pumptrack for the first time since my crash last week and in any kind of serious way and I did not trust the bike at all and was not comfortable at all on it.
|
Week of goat head punctures, front and rear, and sidewall tears. It makes me not want to ride :( I managed to evade flat tires today
|
played messenger downtown to deliver something to a real messenger service. fun times.

Hopefully it'll slow you down and give the competition a chance. |
TMonk, I'm from Oceanside, CA. I'm quite certain in the Vista/Oceanside area there are between two and four fixed gears. Or so.

Today I rode my new SS on trails and jumps for 4 hrs. I finally realized why people love to train on fixed. It was no problem to spin up pretty fast even at 51.6 g.i. and I still could grind up hills and over obstacles. I don't think I'm going to mess with the gearing on it after all.

QFT. You should almost never ride your bike on the sidewalk. I try to stay off unless I'm parking in front of a business on that block and there is a curb. |

Don't jump to conclusions. Some cyclists find it safer (and it is also acceptable) to make left turns by riding onto the street corner and crossing via the crosswalk. Judging by his position on the accident, I'd say this is entirely possible.
|
I do exactly that, but it is acceptable to use the alternate method. Just saying.

Laced up my 30-year old nearly-dead B17 Champion, installed a new fork and a set of fenders on the IRO. The saddle feels brand new.

today decided to look at my cog to see if it did indeed come loose when I felt a slip... yup. I don't know what the deal is. Had the AC to PW at first, upgrade to PW on PW (with PW lockring) and still happening, even if I do a ****load of chainwhip tightening. Take it off and no threading issues seem to exist and I'm as careful as anyone can be with a hub as I am with my leader's. Truly frustrating, never had this problem with formula hubs. I'm considering just trying a rotafix to tighten the shhhit out of it
putting it back on and going for a ride. pace pedaling I don't notice it, but if I go to skid, yuuup. grr. last night I went to a bar close to meet to meet up with some ppl. friend wanted to come hang out afterwards and had to walk my bike home so I could walk with her :( also bought a wireless ipod deck which is awesome. not having to wear earbuds is nice for when I'm willing to take the backpack with me |
rotafix or just stick a long piece of pipe over the handle of the chainwhip
|
Bummer. Bench vise would be grand investment. Even if it has to be on the kitchen counter.

Getting out of bed was a doosey for me, major knee soreness, it felt like my knees were going to give out from all that back peddling from yesterday... my commute to work is going to be interesting.
|
Today I swam nearly 2 miles at practice, total adds up to 4 or so miles or so in the last 2 days. Also I get to do some medicine ball workouts a 100m Time Trial this afternoon. My arms are killing me.

Cool morning here in pdx... went out with the wife this am and will be going to Sellwood to cruise the abundant antique shops there this afternoon and the weather is supposed to be glorious.
have always come to Portland in the fall and winter and it does not look like I will see any rain while I am here... :D |

Today I rode 58 miles at a nice, moderate pace. Feels good man. Now I'm about to go dunk in the ocean and take a little nap on the beach.

Remember that the last 50m matter more than the first. Its easier to make up a slow first half than to survive the last 50.
