Am I not getting something, or is it 2011, lol.

clink83 04-19-11 04:32 PM

Oh, the irony of it. You would think after 4 months I would write the correct year!

ismai1 04-19-11 04:37 PM

So I think I'm gonna go with the andels. Do you think the silver will match the fork since its not chrome?

Scrodzilla 04-19-11 04:54 PM

Yes. Go with silver.

toosahn 04-19-11 06:34 PM

what don't you like about the gimondis?

ismai1 04-19-11 06:48 PM

They are not stiff and the chainring is too small. I can't find a bigger chainring either.

avner 04-19-11 07:24 PM

Don't build a bike you love.

Someone will take it from you and all that will be left is sorrow.

I would fight anyone who would try to take my bike

Scrodzilla 04-19-11 07:33 PM

Damn, av - judging by the way you talked about it, I thought you were unhappy with your Leader.

I would too, and win.

The IRD Defiants may look similar but in my experience with them, I find them to be exceptionally stiff and a much better crankset all around.

I'm gonna put the giomondis on this frame just to see the look of it. I don't know if that style crank will flow good with this frame.

to the dude who's bike was stolen - I'm sorry. How did it get stolen?

scrod I too would win. been boxing for a while.

toosahn 04-19-11 11:56 PM

why do you think the gimondi's are not stiff? Have you tried them on the frame or are you just guessing?

they're both extremely easy to get out, i've never had a problem installing or taking out either bb. and those plain gxp bbs that sram has are pretty gross, bearings get rough pretty quickly (though they say they've redesigned the dust seals for 2011). i'd consider installation and maintenance pretty equal between the two.

going to have to say the crank arms and steel frame are going to be flexing much more than the crank axle, whether it's square taper or gxp.

really, i'd just go on looks.

Yeah, man...130bcd is a tough size to find.

We reconciled our differences. I took off the Rando and I got flexible enough to comfortably ride the drop and suddenly the bike was a great bit of fun. Snappier handling, no flex when compared to the Jamis, it looked really sexy too.

as for the bike being stolen? It was locked to itself, behind a few bikes in someones yard at a party. From what I was told it sounds like some ghetto kid from the neighborhood walked in, picked it up and walked away with U-lock still attached. No one thought to say anything.

i did not mean it like i could not find one that wouldnt fit, it's just I can't find any with that same style.:(

damn dude, well you know if they walked in they have to live within walking distance. i'm sure you've already checked CL but keep tryin!

Scrodzilla 04-20-11 11:14 AM

As much as I hate Origin 8, how about this?

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41uh-m8KwaL.jpg

ismai1 04-20-11 11:20 AM

damn thats almost identical. Do those chain rings hold up well? I was never really a fan of origin 8 either... I wonder if it'll look stupid since the arms are pretty shiney, almost like chrome and thats a dullish silver. but thanks dude, i havent purchased anything yet so I'm looking for as many options as possible. On FSA's website about the crank it states they have different teeth combinations but I can't find any.

http://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/109/FGimondi

Teeth combination: 46, 48
(FSA, Website)

Or is that something different?
I'll shoot FSA an email later today and ask them.

avner 04-20-11 12:06 PM

From what people have said Origin 8 is decent. It means the cranks are available with either 46 or 48 teeth when you buy them (depending on weather the spot you're buying from stocks them)

Scrodzilla 04-20-11 12:34 PM

Origin 8 is a crapshoot - some of their stuff is okay and some of it is complete garbage. I just happen to be aware of some of the inner workings of that company and am not a fan of how they conduct business, which is why I am biased.

I've never seen that chainring up close.

I suppose I may have opened a can of worms but I really don't want to start ****.

All the force from your crank arms is acting on that BB..that's where you're going to get the most flex. Do you really think a big Al crank arm is going to bend before the tiny little square that the crank attaches to does?

I Have a Bike 04-20-11 02:43 PM

awwwwwwwww man. No fair.

Actually, the BB spindle won't flex much at all. The torque from the right crank arm pretty much gets transferred directly from the crank spider / chainring to the chain. The torque from the left crank arm is transferred by torsion through the spindle to the right crank arm. Bending deformation of the spindle is negligible, since the bearings are very close to the crank arms. An external BB with a large diameter hollow spindle will be a bit stiffer, but the difference is very small when compared with frame and wheel lateral flexibility. If you are really concerned about crank stiffness, get a true track crankset with a 144mm bcd and 1/8" chainring.
