Fixed gear conversion to single speed?
Quick question, say you have a fixed gear and after a while you want to change it to a single speed so you can coast with it. For me it seems coasting is more simpler because of bikes I have ridden before. All you really have to do to change a fixed gear to a singles speed is to get a flip flop hub? Since it is the same bike, will it be the same speed? I see people with fixed gear style bikes (all hipstered out) coasting with it and it seems like a simpler process. (kilo tt pro)
So all I'm really asking is if you have a fixed gear and you want to convert it into a single speed so you can coast is changing the hub all you have to do? What other processes are there? |
Purpose is to get to school and another way of transportation

well it depends how you did your conversion...is your rear hub already flip-flop? do you have a picture?

Are you saying you have a kilo tt? If so you just need to have a freewheel installed on the other side of your hub. I personally am getting sick of my ss. Riding on campus is a pain especially when I have to ride slow when there are a bunch of people around. Using my brake constantly drives me nuts.
If you don't have a flip flop hub and you put kilo in your post for some other reason then there are a couple different ways it will need to be done but like docboyd said we're going to have to see your setup. |
screw on a freewheel, that's it.
