Requesting pics of double clip/strap setup

Hey all,
I realize this is shameful enough to put in the confessions thread but here goes. I just got my 4x clips/straps and I'm having a tough time getting them adjusted right. I figured I might be weaving something through the wrong place. Does anybody have a pic/example of how they set up this style of clips and straps? Yes, I google image'd it and I could pretty much only turn up this style of clip:

For reference I have these pedals:

but should be getting these soon so either setup would be helpful.

Thanks for helping a n00b!

Is your problem that you can't thread the straps through the pedal? I don't have a picture right now (i can take one when i get back), but my pedals (GR-9's) don't accept double straps. What i wound up doing was running the extra double strap under the pedal and securing it with zip ties.

Otherwise, the idea is that, with the pedals flat and the finished part of the straps facing towards the ground, you thread the straps from outside to inside, so that the long parts face the frame. You then wrap the actual strap parts up, through the clips, and then through the buckle. The teeth on the buckle should catch right at the first kink in the picture.

Thanks! I assume it's the same idea with the 4x clips...

Yes just double the amount of cage to thread through.

i was once a double strapper, and if i had to go back to straps i would definitely get singles over doubles. with singles, youre much more likely to use straps correctly, not just leaving them at one setting. doubles fall into the dead zone, outdated on the track and inconvenient on the road.

gonna have to agree. tightening 2 pairs of straps on each side is a pita, and most are probably gonna lazy it out and make one setting they just flip into.

I would imagine that the majority of fixed gear riders with straps do this.

Guilty.

I mean, if i were really anal about foot retention, i'd go clipless.

x2

I didn't adjust every time I put on my single straps so not much is going to change.

What pedals are these?

has anyone here fashioned a temporary clip and strap system for spdsl or atac?

EpicSchwinn 04-27-11 12:27 AM

Ended up going with leukybear's suggestion. Feels good, man

Routing your double straps like that makes sense when using pedals with only one set of holes but just seems dumb on pedals that can freely accommodate two straps.

Tristanh666 04-28-11 05:20 PM

i dont quite understand whats going on. with the double straps wouldnt it make more sense to lace each strap through the two holes on the side instead of lacing the back strap through the holes in the back face of the pedal?

homebrewk 04-28-11 06:05 PM

Why not loop the second strap through the front of the pedal? (if you can)

to add to the cccombo, I don't know what Leukybear and EpicSchwinn are smoking, they certainly aren't passing it, but why in the world would you route your straps in such an ugly and (seemingly) illogical manner?

Anyway, here's a picture of my doublestraps, no origami or zip-ties required: http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/cinell...2315#photo8799

I was thinking the same thing! My pedals only have One set of holes also. I was thinking on zipties to secure the front strap to the pedal supports to keep them in place! All the pressure will end up where it needs to go. Also Scrod what the deal with people twisting the strap when going through the holes? Knowledge?

Scrodzilla 04-28-11 07:15 PM

Supposedly twisting the strap keeps it from sliding back and forth through the pedal. I've never had a problem with untwisted straps.

If your pedals only have one set of holes, you could always just use longer bolts to attach your clip to the pedal and route the front strap above them to keep it secure.

Thanks Scrodzilla
