I was riding home today in the rain in dress clothes (as if this wasn't miserable enough), and was mashing up a good-sized hill when my pants came uncuffed enough to get caught in the chain. Suck. I actually avoided taking a spill, but came pretty close as the chainring ate my pants. My knee hit the handlebars pretty hard without my foot coming unclipped, I'm still not sure how that happened... I didn't think it could reach.

I know its not a fingertip, but I just needed to b**** about it, a ruined pair of grey wool dress pants after spending 11 hours gone at school just sucks.
Maybe they will make comfy cutoffs. :p

Hey, I don't know what you're implying, but you can kiss my cherry red....umm...nevermind.
Sorry about the pants.

I am implying that my level of sacrifice is vastly inferior to yours. What else could that have been interpreted as???

glomarduck 11-01-04 11:01 PM

try bicycle clips next time

I am glad that ryan_c is not mortally wounded. Thank you

Do you mean the metal clips that hold your pants tight around the calf? There's one laying around here somewhere, I think my dad usually takes it... I'm thinking it might start seeing more use. If this isn't what you are talking about, I have no idea.

glomarduck 11-01-04 11:13 PM

yep thats it

I'm wondering where you found a good sized hill in Chicago. I'm assuming it was a bridge.

or a pile of homeless people

The lake used to reach my neighborhood, so theres a "ridge" of sorts.
OK, maybe not GOOD sized, but good for Chicago. Short but a fair angle. Mash-worthy.

Fugazi Dave 11-02-04 12:09 AM

Fair enough.

FixinInTraffic 11-02-04 12:11 AM

same thing can happen to carhartt logger jeans. fixed drivetrain wins every time in my experience.

Not always true - I threw a chain with a pair of carhartts. Brought the bike to a skid stop, and left several little chips out of the bottom of the bike :(

FixinInTraffic 11-02-04 01:05 AM

maybe your chain wasn't tight enough or your axle slipped. Mine took a huge chunk out of the carhartts no problem.

No fun either way. Too bad the capri pants popular for guys in europe haven't caught on here

HereNT 11-02-04 01:12 AM

Nah - I know it was the pant leg. I felt it pull, it just didn't rip...

progre-ss 11-02-04 06:58 AM

Maybe you should just "Manpris" them and be just like ACDC's Angus Young.
