op...before your thread goes completely culinary...
i see that you posted in a couple other threads that you plan on putting a big chainring on your new cog. i am not saying it won't work but i have a ss 29er that at one time i was determined to turn into a do-everything bike & give it better road gearing. here is something i learned... do you see how the chainstays really widen out to accommodate those big 29" mtb tires? well you better double-check your bike to see if it has clearance for the big chainring you have planned. fyi, the biggest ring my bike can take before it hits the stay is 39t & it is so close that i won't even use it. good luck... |
Are you picking bikes based on looks? Nothing wrong with that, just curious, as the bikes you like seem to have a similar look. It'd be dumb of me to argue that I picked my bike on function alone, since this SSFG, but I think that it's definitely something to consider at least a little bit. I mean, I like the way NJS pursuit bikes look, but I won't ride one around town.

ah man that changes everything... i see what your talking about... i dont want a 29er that i cant run a larger ring gear on... **** back to square one... im going to go eat a pulled pork sandwich and potato salad i guess...
Damnit... |
Good choice.

If you aren't tricking, I don't see why you are so concerned about strength. Any reputable steel frame will be strong enough for normal use.

this is a pic of a 42/16 gear setup on the monocog. its a different crank than the one im looking at so i guess ill go again and look at the clearance. if the 42 fits then im gonna buy it. if it doesnt then im gonna keep lookin...

so the 42t chainring fit perfect! im running a 16t cog and with 60mm tires that gives me 76 gear inches. : ) im very happy with my purchase. its cool the mechanic at the bike shop owned the same bike. that gives me a ton of confidence.

Big Apples are on order. went with the 29x2.35 set. cant wait to try them out. honestly i dont even want to ride the cog till i get em installed.

any of you guys monocog riders?
I want to swap out the cane creek headset for a chris king one. stem and bars will probably come from raceface, Avid discs BB7s from somewhere, but im not sure about the cranks. i have a square taper BB atm and want to upgrade it. what are some of the dimensions I will need to focus on when ordering? should i stick with a square taper design? any and all input would be greatly appreciated... also, the mounting for the vstyle brakes wont be used when i convert over to discs... should i grind them off? im thinking about doing that then powder coating the frame some poop brown color for security reasons. |
today i tried a kfc "doublicious" sandwich, it made my heart hurt
|
i made my own curry last night. it came with an 15t freewheel. i threw that away.
