kilo tt sizing
I am about to order a kilo tt, and was wondering about the sizing on bikesdirect.com. I ride a 53cm miyata right now, that fits me perfectly, but I noticed they said to size down on the site. Do you think a 50cm be too small?
measure your inseam, then pick the size with "standover height" just less than your inseam. that usually is already a good enough starting point and pretty accurate to which size you need.
thank you. :)
I'm torn. my inseam is almost 32 inches. the color really I wanted is sold out in a 53cm, I am just nervous that a 50cm would be too small. my 53cm road bike fits me well, but would be uncomfortable if it were any smaller. |

A 53 Kilo actually measures out to be about a 56, so if a 53 road bike fits you well, I'd say a 50 Kilo would be good for you.
yessss, thats what I want to hear! thank you fellas. :)
If you like a responsive bike that is not overly stiff, the Kilo TT is wonderful. Toss the pedals...
get the 53*
Woah woah woah. I have a 32" inseam and fit on a 55 cm Kilo. How tall are you? I'm 5'10" and actually feel a tiny bit cramped cockpit-wise, since the Kilo's a more compact bike. If you're a taller lady i feel that the 53 cm might be worth waiting for.
If you do use standover height as a metric note that the Kilo runs tall, since the bb has to be higher to compensate for pedal strike. So while my tt is pretty much on my nuts when standing straight at a stoplight, it's a perfect fit in terms of stroke length. |

I am just a bit over 5'9"
I've ridden a 55 Kilo and it fit pretty well to be honest, but that was with the insane amount of headset spacers it comes with. I like my 53 to be honest.
While I obviously don't know your exact proportions, I'm going to chime in and say that at your height, you may be cramped on a 50. I'm 5'10" and back when I had a Kilo, I had a 53 that was a little too small for me. However, I have longish arms and have come to prefer bikes that some would consider slightly too big because of this (currently riding a 58cm Leader 722 and a 55cm leader 725).
well shoot. I have long arms and torso, and greatly dislike feeling cramped, which is why I was afraid of the 50cm to begin with. I think I may have to suck it up and wait for the color I want, or just get a different color in the 53cm.
wish they had a 52 or a 51. cuz 50 is too much of a jump. ok changed my original post to say 53 ;D

OP, i think the 53 is worth waiting for, if you fear crampedness. Out of curiosity what were you looking at, exactly? |
I was going to snag up the stripper in gold, but it's sold out in the size I wanted. I don't really like any of the other colors available. I may get the pro (with the chrome.)
Now that I hear you're 5'9" with long arms/torso, I'm leaning even more toward a 53, especially considering that Kilos have considerably short top tubes.
My Kilo was gold and despite it being too small, I loooooved that bike. Here's a pic for nostalgia: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rck_drops2.jpg :) |
yeah, I'm going to get the 53cm. now I just have to decide which one. :(
damn it, you tease. I love the gold! |
I'm 5'9" with short arms and I felt just a tad bit stretched on a 53cm KHS Flite 100 (same frame) with an 80mm stem. A 53 should work nicely for you!

haha CRUEL.
I'm 5'9 w/ 32" in seam. Ride a 52/53 in EVERY bike I have ever had and went with the 50 kilo TT.. Very glad I did, fits perfect.

It looks like they have long top tubes, that is why people say to size down from what you "usually" ride. The TT is real long on the smaller sizes and evens out as you look at the larger sizes. |
Ha...maybe I'm just ruined by my Leaders.
Also, BD recommends sizing down based on the Kilo being measured from c-c instead of the more traditional c-t. Why they still do this instead of just saying what size the frames actually are is beyond me. |
