fake coaster brake

anybody tried this? i thought of it to dodge bike brake laws by just attaching a small piece of metal to the chainstay and making it look like a coaster brake

FKMTB07 05-09-11 11:30 AM

That's ridiculous.

not exactly....a mucky actually works ;)

That's a pretty good idea, totally.

Also, glue a section of seatbelt across your shirt front to avoid getting pulled over when driving without your seatbelt.

JohnDThompson 05-09-11 12:09 PM

Seems like a lot of work for no benefit at all.

Try steering one-handed with your other hand operating the seat-tube brake in an emergency stop. About as effective as a dvd rewinder... at least dvd rewinders look good.

if a cop is at all doubtful of your ghetto rig s/he will just make you demonstrate how your "brake" works.

At least mucky^2's serves this purpose.

I think it could work. Just start riding and lock your legs and enter a skid. Just say it was your coaster brake doing the work. Although any cop wise enough to notice you don't have brakes may not fall for such simple trick.

That would be a coaster brake arm mounted somewhere unconventional, like your hat.

Hahaha

PlattsVegas 05-09-11 04:30 PM

It would be hard for a cop to pull me over on my bike. Im not too worried.

evilcryalotmore 05-09-11 04:40 PM

Might as well get a real coaster...

Because you never ride it, right?

evilcryalotmore 05-09-11 05:11 PM

No scrod, He rides a huffy.

evangelinegale 05-10-11 01:15 PM

whoa whoa, guys, calm down. i wasn't actually considering this, i live in a rural town where we only have 5 paid officers anyways so my chances of getting stopped on a bike for anything other than looking like a quearmosexual is very unlikely. it just seemed like an interesting idea and was wondering if anyone had already done it.

hairnet 05-10-11 01:28 PM

I had to laugh at this, since honestly I don't ride as often as most people on this forum.

But in all seriousness, the only time I ever got "pulled over" on my bike was when I was already stopped. Most cops in my area don't pull over cyclists anyway, and when they do try to it's only when they too are mounted on bikes. This is also rare, as it only happens for two days (Hall of Fame Weekend) in the summer. Needless to say, they are out of shape and have 20lbs of lights and crap on their bikes. I wasn't trying to sound cool over the internet by writing what you quoted me saying.

hairnet 05-11-11 11:48 AM

Yeah, cop ridazz

Nah. Put it on the front wheel. :innocent:

willpower101 05-11-11 11:16 PM

Has anyone attached a bmx gyro to a fixed gear before? That way you could have a super clean, practically unnoticeable front brake and cable.
