Threadless Quill stems?

So this might be kind of a stupid question, but do they make a threadless quill stem? I really like the look of the quills, but unfortunately have a threadless fork. I looked around on a few sites, but couldn't find any. Am I wasting my time here?

No such thing as a "threadless quill" but I think the closest thing you'll find is this:

My God, that's perfect. Thanks :)

In theory you can convert a threadless fork to threaded by threading the fork steerer and replacing the headset, especially if the fork has a 1" steerer. Once this is done you can use a quill stem.

I also heard that if the inside of your 1" steerer measures 22.2 mm, you can use a quill stem inserted into your steerer and use a seatpost clamp to keep your threadless headset/steerer together.

Scroll to Threadless without spacers.

Discussion on BF here and here.

Yes. Quill stems are heavy and flexy. Threadless is better. Stop looking at your bike and ride it.

Every time mihlbach posts, it's like a plague of locusts. He is BFSSFG's calamity.

mihlbach has a lot to contribute and has helped me and others make decisions and solve problems. The problem is not with the message, but the manner of delivery.

LOL! If I irk you, then I have done my job.
And, if you think I am rude and tacktless, you obviously have never read a Dutret thread.

I stand by my earlier advice to stop looking at one's bike and ride it. The stem holds your bars. As long as it is the correct height and length, there is little point in worrying about how it looks.

Dude, come on. This is like saying, "A wife is for cleaning the house and having your babies. Sure, she's ugly but just turn off the lights and procreate." Ignorance for the sake of saying something ignorant.

It's perfectly okay to like the way your bike looks.

Sure, but its absurd to give looks priority over fit and function. Its remarkably easy to have a nice looking bike without insisting on obsolete technologies or obsessing over the appearance of minor parts (such as stems and headsets) that have very little influence on the overall appearance of the bike.

The OP asked a question and I provided what I think is the most reasonable answer. You are free to disagree, of course, and the OP is free to do what he wants with his bike.

Some of us like having bikes that look good. I'd hate to hear what you think about any car that isn't a beige ford escort. Not everything has to be crude and utilitarian. There's something fulfilling about having a bike that looks great regardless of the extra gram or two that a quill stem weighs.

You missed the point.

Scrodzilla 05-10-11 04:52 PM

OP said nothing regarding form over function and I provided him with a perfect solution in post #2, which he acknowledged in post #3.

This needs not continue.
