Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Is it really next march? I'm in a neighboring town, and I'm planning on going. I have to ask - are all these bikes ridiculously fancy and nice? Are there any builders who do a good job and don't charge $2,000 for a frame? And is it a fun trip without knowing anything about framebuilding?

i believe its in march. i'd have to check, but im pretty sure its in sacramento. all the pieces at the NAHBS are a framebuilder's best work, and yes, most custom frames tend to be quite expensive - though there are definitely many that fall under 2 grand, including a few titanium's as well. i believe matthew's custom cycles in new mexico offers steel at nice prices, around 1000 or less. his bikeforums ID is Live Wire, you can shoot him a PM and tell him i sent ya. mikkelson in my city (alameda) also offers them <1500, and he has his own homemade fit machines.

if you dont know much about framebuilding, go. you'd probably learn more there than spending hours reading about it online.

Yes and Yes. You can definitley find builders at the show who will build you a great frame for under $2,000! The show is really cool and you need not know anything about framebuilding. However, you will walk away with a new appreciation for bike builders. You need to go next year.

NAHBS will be in Sacramento next year and it will be on the first weekend in March. If you are traveling here, there will be a ton of bike events scheduled all over town. We are really looking forward to this.

It's Chris King. It's obvious he can live in anonymity.

The Indianapolis show a few years ago was great. I'm not interested in getting a frame, but I had good time. There was an interesting mix of people in the big crowd that showed up, including racer types with cycling caps, retired couples, and tattooed fixed gear types.
