Unrelated to bicycling, but since we're on the subject of moronic soccer moms in SUV's. This biotch was tailgating me, swirving and honking her horn at me through a 15 mph school zone...after the school zone she passed me in a no passing zone in town. I was livid, so I followed her home. I had a nearly full big gulf full of mountain dew in a cup holder. As she pulled into her drive way and got out of her car...WHAMO! Mt. dew all over that biznitch. The look on her face was priceless. Everyone's gotta do something like this at least once in their lives.

Whenever I ride around my town, I always have those drivers that think they have enough time to make the left turn in front of you, when in fact they do not.

This happened 3 times today! I just think to myself, at least I am paying attention

It's not just bikes that the idiots have issues with. I drive a Smart car around the city. People assume it is slow (it's not in real world situations) and will hold them up, so I end up having to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the right-turn-on-red crowd all the time. Or, I get the clowns in pickups and SUVs tailgating me onto ramps. Surprise, surprise, they can't or aren't willing to try to corner anywhere near the speeds I can easily. None of this ever happens when I drive my wife's Mercedes.

Boy, are you clueless. I wouldn't own one as a an only car, but as a supplement to the Mercedes, it can't be beat in an urban setting.

Really? I hate people that drive smart cars more than most people in SUVs. I live in hollywood with a bunch of asshats who drive smart cars. Apparently because they are tiny they don't feel like they need to actually move at all when passing me. At least once a week someone will come within 3 inches of me. And worse is that you can't hear them at all so you've got no idea it's about to happen.

The neighbor two houses down has one...I'm waiting til I catch him doing it. I'll **** in his yard.

I'm glad this is your first post.

Agh smart cars.... way too dorkey for me I'm afraid. They're only fun when you're tipping them over when they're parked.

Clueless car drivers can drive just about anything. I don't feel superior to anyone just for owning one, I just like to keep the additional gas $ in my pocket. Plenty of small cars have good highway mileage, but they do so through the use of a true overdrive. A lot of them don't even advertise their (considerably lower) city mileage. The smart has almost the same city mileage as highway in my experience. Works for me.

I've never seen a smart car on a freeway before; and I live in California, north and south. Dead serious not trolling.

I've seen them here in CT on the highway, they look ********.

krusty 05-15-11 07:05 PM

Mine's governed at 150km/hr. It is effortless on the freeway. I've owned a lot of cars since the 70s, including 4 Mercedes, one of them an AMG, a BMW that constantly broke and left me places, a Maserati that constantly broke my wallet, and a few obscure vintage cars. One I drove around the continent twice was a '76 Toyota Land Cruiser. I learned to drive a manual tranny on a '74 VW Bug that topped out at 60mph with the wind. The smart is much better than a lot of my old vehicles. My wife's Mercedes offers no real advantage to me except a bit of extra comfort on long trips. In the real world, I long ago decided that several hundred hp was fun, but unusable, and just ended up costing big $ to insure and run. In the US, you don't pay what we do for cars, insurance or gas (yet). The subcompact end of the industry will make a comeback yet.

Leukybear 05-15-11 07:09 PM

I'll take your word. How much does insurance run for it? A tank of gas lasts?

just about a sex toy shoved in the bum.

tessartype 05-15-11 11:02 PM

Smarts are about as quirky as any car I'm ever likely to get - but it has too many limitations for me. It's the iPad of cars: It has some geeky appeal, and I'd get one, but it falls somewhere between car and bike while not quite suiting both requirement. It's not as tiny as a bike, nor as spacey as a car - can't take many passengers, but also can't quite enjoy the between-traffic advantage of a bike. Much more expensive than a bike (and quite a few small cars as well), and then again, as tight as the parking situation here is, I'd spent the extra 70cm on a more function Peugeot. Can't do that "unparallel parking" gimmick here anyway.

this thread is now about sex toys. I saw a painting of anal beads when I went to see the Picasso exhibit at the vmfa. what a clever artist.

You can't sup sqrls in it. You might as well "say come here and check out my new pocket protector".

Yup...you'd be much better off buying a TDI golf...way better fuel economy way more power and still tiny
There are 2 kinds of cars worth buying either a really cool one or a really fuel efficient one...compromising just doesn't work

Might as well, considering the best I currently have to offer is a "come check out my handlebar"...
