Bars for previously dislocated shoulders
I dislocated both shoulders last February and riding hasn't been the same.
RB-021's are uncomfortable now and risers don't help very much at all. Any recommendations for bars? |
Probably something that will put you in an upright, relaxed position. Nitto North Road (or similar)?
|
I'll get harassed for putting a north road on the mash, wouldn't I?
|
Bum bars, man

I hate to say it but if you've got bad shoulders, you may have picked the wrong bike. |

who cares if cruiser/porter type bars get haters, ride what's comfortable because that's what'll make you ride the most
|
f*ck it dude just get some ape hangers. and post pics please
|
just work on strengthening your rotator cuff to get some shoulder stability back. then you could probably go back to your usual bars
|
Thanks for the tips guys. I start pt this week so I hope it helps. I guess for now I'll put on ape hangers and just walk my bike over to a nearby starbucks while I take pictures of it.
|
Nitto Moustache?
|
starbucks is too mainstream...

As a fellow mash owner, I'd like to cast my vote for the ape hangers, with streamers and metallic-rubber grips.
|
That would kinda rule, especially with a 650 front wheel.

and finish it off with a sweet banana seat.

I came back from a car accident about 15 years ago when I was told I would most likely never walk again without crutches or a cane.

Now it dislocates so easily I'm forced to stay away from any contact sport or any sport that involves me throwing something. I'm not making that same mistake with my left shoulder though. Rehab this week |

Thanks for the tip bro. Unfortunately for me, I dislocated my right shoulder 3 years ago and didn't get any treatment for it.

I have two torn rotator cuffs and I have found that my favorite bars to ride with on my steamroller are Soma Sparrows. On my Big Block I use the stock risers that came with it, they are nice and wide. I am mentally tired from the pain in my shoulder, I am thinking surgery soon. Good luck with your PT and finding a comfortable bar, deffinatley try the sparrows.

We're definitely on the same boat. It hurts me everyday to know I can't throw a football, baseball, can't do any jiu jitsu or any sports for that matter. Sports is a big part of my life and having these injuries is like cutting off my balls. I'm also going to be looking into surgery soon. |
Sparrows are another great option. I think any bars that put your hands in a position where they are a little more parallel to one another will be a big improvement on how your shoulders feel, which is why I initially suggested Northroads.
|
Another nice bar if you do not want to go full towny is the Nitto Jitensha. It has no rise but it does have the sweep that the sparrows have. Scrod is right about the Northroads also. My wife has those on her Mixte and they are really comfy.
Here are the Jitensha's http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...r/jitensha.jpg |
