I love how the anti-pie thread turned into a pro-pie thread. This shows that pie conquers all.

So I went to my parents' place this weekend, and my mom made apple pie. You know, homemade crust, apples from their own trees. I love her apple pie, I really do; but she's been making it every time I've been to visit. It's getting to be too much. What's the best way to tell her I'm sick of pie without hurting her feelings?

Oh, and by the way, DO NOT jump on the pie bandwagon! It's for your own good!

It was posted earlier that people used to eat pie for breakfast - I have been known to knock back a few in place of food first thing in the morning...does that count?

in a twisted kind of anti-pie, bizarro world kind of way.
way off topic, would the Jack you refer to be the prophet from Lowell, or the wizard from Tennessee?

Nothing so "insider" - it's a Fight Club reference - the narrator reads a series of essays written in the first person, from the perspective of a guy named Jack's organs. "I am Jack's medula oblongata...".

How to make a better cherry pie:
Buy a commercially made crust, the kind that comes in a box in the refrigerated section of grocery store.
Buy two cans of cherry pie filling; enough for, normally, two pies.
Open the cans of cherries and put the contents into a big bowl.
Use a spoon to scoop and skim out as much of the goopy non-cherry stuff as possible, leaving behind the cherries.
Put one of the two crust halves in a pie tin, fill it up with the minimally-goopy cherries, put the other pie crust on top, seal the edges with pressure, poke a few holes in the top, bake the whole thing in a oven, and then let it cool a little while.
I also have a recipe for better apple pie that doesn't even need a pie tin, but I'll save that for sometime when I don't have anything to talk about.
