threaded headsets?

Hey guys,

Super noob here and I need some assistance. I just purchased a Nitto Pearl Quill Stem for my Kilo TT. My Kilo came stock with a threadless stem.... but do I need to purchase a new threaded headset to install the quill stem? If so, any recommendations?

Thanks for the help!

you need to get your fork threaded or get a new fork to use with a threaded headset.

Not only do you need a new headset but you also need a new fork to use the stem.

Something like this should work.

sorry guys... last question. on this guy's bike (link below), he has a nitto jaguar threaded quil stem, but he's running on a stock threadless fork w/ a headset. Anyway I can do that as well?

Try to see if you can even fit your stem inside your fork steerer; you'll need a new fork if it doesn't go in smoothly.

If it does go in smoothly, you could have a shop thread the fork for you but they usually charge a lot and some might not even do it because of liability issues.

You are confused. The example you have shown has a threaded headset on a threaded fork. The extra spacers have been used because the fork was not cut down and possibly the threading did not extend far enough to eliminate them.

You made a mistake in buying that quill stem. Return it for credit or sell it, and try to make this a learning experience.
