You know, do track stuff with yer track bikes!

I've been trying to get my son to go with me and take the classes at Rock Hill.

Saw these same wheels listed on another forum for 600 with an included Red cassette, advertised mileage at almost 4000.

I just realized I'm only 3.5 hours from rock hill.
When I searched for velodromes, I disregarded that one cause it was in SC, and was gonna drive down to Asheville one day to ride their fake velo.

Definitely going to make a trip down there and take a class.

What color bar tape should I use? Copper colored frame/fork, white bars, silver cranks, black rims. Nothing matches. What should I do?

Should I get this bike, or a Kilo WT? I'm having a tuff time deciding.

SpeshulEd 03-05-14 02:09 PM

I'd say you're foolish to not get the pee wee bike.

Gold KMC chain on the CAAD Y/N?

johnnytheboy 03-06-14 02:59 PM

+1 on KMC X10SL chains, -1 on gold.

I just made the mistake on my new black & white Felt. The K10SL is a great chain: light & silent on my mutt of a drivetrain (Shimano RD, SRAM cassette, FSA cranks). It just looks tacky and will only look worse as road grime builds up.

Scrodzilla 03-06-14 04:59 PM

FWIW the titanium nitride finish on gold K710SL chains isn't just an aesthetic thing, it also adds to the chain's longevity and smoothness.

I've also never seen a bike that didn't look good with a gold chain.

Should I race the dmr this year in cruiser class despite it not being race geometry?

The x10sl only comes in gold as far as I know. Just don't clean it, after a few weeks it'll be black. lol.

Edit: nevermind.

Very wise investment.

So I go the PeeWee bike. Thanks for the advice. Should I rattle can it "murdered out" black or neon green?

I may or may not remove the crank and headset.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=367616Guys I wanna add some color to my bike, what color bar tape should I use?

TejanoTrackie 03-07-14 02:54 PM

OK, so yesterday I rode my Bianchi Pista Concept brakeless on the road. I have no problem riding brakeless under normal conditions, and almost never touch the front brake on my other FG bikes when I ride them. Still, there's always those unexpected emergency stop situations, where having a front brake can mean the difference between avoiding a wreck and having one. Yesterday I was within a block of returning home and one of those unexpected situations occurred, where a senile neighbor backed out of his driveway on the other side of the road and then backed all the way across to my side as I was just passing by. My butt puckered and I reflexively did a seated skid to fortunately stop within inches of his suv. Had I been going any faster I would have hit him for sure, and a front brake would have avoided the drama. Now I have plenty of FG bikes to ride on the road, which are equipped with a front brake, but the Bianchi is the only real track geo bike I own other than my vintage Paramount P14, and sometimes I just like riding it for the responsive feel and light weight. The Bianchi fork does not have a hole in the crown for mounting a front brake, or I would otherwise simply have done so. Since the nearest track is 60 miles away, and currently hasn't even opened for the season, my only option is to ride on the road. I do take reasonable precautions such as wearing a helmet, using full foot retention with road clipless pedals and shoes, and riding out in the country where there is not a lot of vehicular traffic. Still, I am concerned that my luck may run out by riding brakeless.

So, I'm weighing several options as follows:

1) Keep riding the Bianchi brakeless on the road and just HTFU. If it's my time to go then it's my time to go.

2) Stop riding the Bianchi on the road, and ride one of the many other FG bikes I have with a front brake.

3) Change the fork on the Bianchi to another one that has the same rake with a front brake hole and mount a front brake with a cross lever for easy removal when riding on the track.

4) Get one of those brake calipers than clamp on the fork legs for use with track forks that lack a mounting hole.

Scrodzilla 03-07-14 03:18 PM

Clamp-on brakes aren't recommended on carbon forks, so you may be able to rule out option 4.

Good point, thanks. Also, I hear those brakes aren't very effective anyway.

Scrodzilla 03-07-14 03:33 PM

They're good in a pinch but typically feel a little weird.

Since you want color, popular choice would be rasta...

Root around the close-out bin at your LBS, there's usually "colorful" tape they're trying to get rid of...

Either 2) or 3).

Another option with 3) steal a fork off one of your other FG bikes with a brake and install it on the Bianchi until track opens, then swap back for the season.

jalopyman 03-07-14 05:03 PM

Should I run a brake on my non-machined H+Son front rim? I've ridden brakeless in the past (if anything I ride much more conservatively) and have years of experience riding. I don't want to be a jackass but the bike looks so damn clean without a brake.

Scrodzilla 03-07-14 05:15 PM

If it's a Formation Face or F30, you will ruin the rim. All other H+Son rims have a brake surface, it's just anodized.

The problem is that none of my other forks are compatible with the Bianchi. The Leader fork has the same rake (28mm), but fits a totally different headset and headtube. The Dolan has the same headset and headtube but has 15mm more rake, which would totally change the handling. I'm thinking more along the lines of finding a compatible fork that is has a brake hole, such as the fork on the newer Bianchi Super Pista frames.

FakeFuji 03-07-14 06:42 PM

What about one of the alpine forks scrod restocked, would definitely look good

I don't think they have a brake hole.
