http://www.pedalroom.com/forums/mark...-wheelset-3055 ... should I buy em used or make them myself? this seems like a good deal... Saw these same wheels listed on another forum for 600 with an included Red cassette, advertised mileage at almost 4000. http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=143089 |
I just realized I'm only 3.5 hours from rock hill.
When I searched for velodromes, I disregarded that one cause it was in SC, and was gonna drive down to Asheville one day to ride their fake velo. Definitely going to make a trip down there and take a class. |
What color bar tape should I use? Copper colored frame/fork, white bars, silver cranks, black rims. Nothing matches. What should I do?

I just made the mistake on my new black & white Felt. The K10SL is a great chain: light & silent on my mutt of a drivetrain (Shimano RD, SRAM cassette, FSA cranks). It just looks tacky and will only look worse as road grime builds up. |
FWIW the titanium nitride finish on gold K710SL chains isn't just an aesthetic thing, it also adds to the chain's longevity and smoothness.
I've also never seen a bike that didn't look good with a gold chain. |

I may or may not remove the crank and headset. |

OK, so yesterday I rode my Bianchi Pista Concept brakeless on the road. I have no problem riding brakeless under normal conditions, and almost never touch the front brake on my other FG bikes when I ride them. Still, there's always those unexpected emergency stop situations, where having a front brake can mean the difference between avoiding a wreck and having one. Yesterday I was within a block of returning home and one of those unexpected situations occurred, where a senile neighbor backed out of his driveway on the other side of the road and then backed all the way across to my side as I was just passing by. My butt puckered and I reflexively did a seated skid to fortunately stop within inches of his suv. Had I been going any faster I would have hit him for sure, and a front brake would have avoided the drama. Now I have plenty of FG bikes to ride on the road, which are equipped with a front brake, but the Bianchi is the only real track geo bike I own other than my vintage Paramount P14, and sometimes I just like riding it for the responsive feel and light weight. The Bianchi fork does not have a hole in the crown for mounting a front brake, or I would otherwise simply have done so. Since the nearest track is 60 miles away, and currently hasn't even opened for the season, my only option is to ride on the road. I do take reasonable precautions such as wearing a helmet, using full foot retention with road clipless pedals and shoes, and riding out in the country where there is not a lot of vehicular traffic. Still, I am concerned that my luck may run out by riding brakeless.
So, I'm weighing several options as follows: 1) Keep riding the Bianchi brakeless on the road and just HTFU. If it's my time to go then it's my time to go. 2) Stop riding the Bianchi on the road, and ride one of the many other FG bikes I have with a front brake. 3) Change the fork on the Bianchi to another one that has the same rake with a front brake hole and mount a front brake with a cross lever for easy removal when riding on the track. 4) Get one of those brake calipers than clamp on the fork legs for use with track forks that lack a mounting hole. |
Clamp-on brakes aren't recommended on carbon forks, so you may be able to rule out option 4.

They're good in a pinch but typically feel a little weird.

Root around the close-out bin at your LBS, there's usually "colorful" tape they're trying to get rid of... |

Should I run a brake on my non-machined H+Son front rim? I've ridden brakeless in the past (if anything I ride much more conservatively) and have years of experience riding. I don't want to be a jackass but the bike looks so damn clean without a brake.
|
If it's a Formation Face or F30, you will ruin the rim. All other H+Son rims have a brake surface, it's just anodized.
