Should I road bike?
tommasini? |
I'm liking the Capo's, especially that price on realcyclist. Too bad they're out of my size. Those Hammers are ugly, and they're out of my size too.

I have a set of capos otw to me right now, so I'll have first hand feedback soon. |
I found a pair of Castelli's that I really like, price is right. Everything else Castelli that I've used before I've really liked.

Amazon has some cheap (~$40-45) Pearl Izumi bibs that are nice (enough).

Should I use:

Cartridge. I hate packing bottom brackets.

Should I sell the older 105 w/biopace group on my recently acquired road bike to help fund a modern 105 group w/STI? I absolutely despise downtube shifters.
|
Unless you love biospace, I would do it.

should i:
singlespeed my GT pantera AL or chase and align the derailleur hanger? it's non-replaceable and cross threaded so chasing may or may not work. i also kind of want to see if someone can weld a rear disc mount to the frame just to see if it can be done. it has a rear u-brake so that kind of sucks. other option is just build it up with really nice parts and then swap to a nice frame at some point, likely soon(like later in the season) |
Attempt to repair. If it works, it works, if not, SS that sh*t.

I'd also probably SS it and not mess with chasing threads. SS rigid mtbs= fun. |
seatstays, and yeah i just figure it might be fun to try to weld it myself:lol:

Either way, I forgot how nice steel feels on the road. It's a really fun ride, even if the color of the frameset is god-awful. Sky-blue/celeste status ain't my bag. |
Subquestion: road or mtb clipless? I really would prefer the ease of walking around that mtb shoes offer. Was gonna get Time atac aliums from nashbar for a cool $50. If I went road, I was thinking something like the shimano pd540. BE MY PERSONAL SHOPPAR
just kiddin'. |
I don't have a ton of reference to compare to, but I'd take my Look Keo pedals/road shoes over Eggbeaters/mountain shoes any day. I just found the eggbeaters more difficult to clip into, have too much float, and just generally don't feel as secure as the Look pedals.

If you ride in the rain, definitely use the cartridge BB. If this is for a fair-weather only ride, its a tough decision. Which cranks?
http://www.velomine.com/EbayImages/newpista1702.jpg Fair weather of course. Having both I'm siding toward the loose ball for the classic campy goodness but the carbon of the latter model has my carbon fetish tempting. Not that it matters as far as cosmetics goes since it's going to live inside the BB shell, but it's nice to know it's there. FYI they're both meant for the crankset, the loose ball came out during the initial launch of the shield decal record pista crank w/ the c record group & the carbon is for the modern relaunch as posted above; only difference is decals. |
Leuky, did you bite the bullet and pay full or find a steal?

PBK campy sale; conveniently timed during their their tour de california instant 20% off code. Stacked discount. I got them for ~$230 shipped; I probably owe lester a sexual favor for that. They should be coming in from the UK any day now if they don't get held up by customs. |
