Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bianchi San Jose questions

I live out in the middle of nowhere and just found a San Jose for sale about 2 hours away. I've got a few questions, and would love some input...

- I'm 5'7" with 31" inseam (floor to "junk" ...is the 52cm pretty good size for me?

- Has anyone added a chain-guard (length of chain, not just the ring)?

Thanks...this forumhas been great. I live over an hour from the nearest bike shop and its mostly road racers.

52 may be a tad small. But no one can be certain.

What do you mean by a chain guard?

From what I know a 52 should be about the right size for you

It depends how low your junk hangs. If you have like 5" of junk hangage, that would make your actual inseam 36" in which case a 52 is far too small. You need to measure inseam from where you would actually be sitting, your groin.

Standover height is not really relevant to a good fit, IMO. Head tube and top tube lengths are more important. The 51 sounds about right for you, though.

As for the chain guard, I don't see why it won't fit.
